I've been working 60+ hours a week for the last 7 years and not making enough money for it to be worth being away from home this much. I was thinking about buying a few bounce houses and slides and maybe cutting a few yards and possible doing sports photography (my wife is a professional photographer but turns down these jobs to focus on studio photography).. I want to do a few things and see what takes off best.. is there anything else you guys can think of that i could try with a small investment and feel out how it goes?

Had a boss in the mortgage business teach me an invaluable lesson over 10 years ago. I am super inquisitive by nature and was always interesting in testing the limits of our in house guidelines for the mortgage products we offered. I was in his office all the time asking questions and wanting to know about this, that or the other.

I went from a new hire to a nuisance in short order. I was also using him as a crutch and preventing myself from mastering our guidelines on my own much more quickly than just asking him everything.

So he made me bring my guidelines in along with my scenario and prove to him that I researched on my own regarding the subject I was asking about before I could ask my question.

In other words, do your own research before you ask me so YOU can show me you're learning before I help.

I sat in line with a girl I've been taking classes with since January relating to a certification exam we are both took yesterday morning. She's doing it for work. I'm doing it because there are several side hustles I'll use it for to supplement my income for away from the office. I haven't shared my plans with ANYONE else in the class. Simply put none of them showed up, or expressed anything other than an eye-rolling excuse of, "Inhave to do this for work and they're making me take the class," so to me, they don't deserve me telling them about the money that can be made using this certification.

But this little girl is getting it for work but mentioned she has been looking for part time work outside of their company. She's newly divorced, technologically challenged and was wondering if our certification could be used to help accomplish it.

She told me how she'd tried Googling but evidently her skills are limited. So I opened up chapter and verse on exactly what and how. Once we talked, she proved to me she had done the work beforehand and researched to the best of her ability and still had questions.

In short, she'd done her work up front.

In short, you haven't. So I apologize if my creativity or knowledge isn't something I'd prefer to let you use while you stand on my shoulders to make yourself more successful. How about you put in more effort than just bounce castles and sports photography before you ask for help?

It sure as hell worked for me, and it worked for my classmate. It might just work for you too if you put a little more effort into it.

You typed all of that just to tell him to research his own shite???

Probably more just to brag about your new certification you will use for side work!!! Grow da frick up!! I not on here much and that's the second time you posted that story! Quit patting yourself on the back. go make all your boat loads of side money, or go take another certification class!

It's not my story. I just copied and pasted GFunk's post to another guy with a similar post as OP.

If you look up the piggy's post history, that is his go to response for the money board whenever anyone asks a certain type of question.

Fine, you got me. I'm a GFunk disciple and I think he's 100% right. OP needs to stop trying to stand on MY shoulders! I'm not sorry that I was born to be naturally inquisitive and driven to succeed. Even though it comes natural to me, I still work damn hard at it and others can too instead of just coming on here asking me to be their consultant and the only thing they bring to the table is sugar cookies and bounce castles.

I actually like what you did here. People who act like insufferable douches deserve to be mocked for it. Keep bringing the pain

I think you should consider it if an opportunity presents itself. Young kids is the best time to do it. They will adjust much quicker than moving high schoolers.

My dad was in the military, my wife's dad was in the military. We lived.

The problem with the "do your own research" response is that internet forums are a form of research.

You think the ideas that you have to give this guy for side money are going to keep you from your million dollar idea? this guy is asking about bounce houses, grass cutting, and taking team photos for the local YMCA coach pitch league.

Get over yourself.

If you are extremely motivated, you may be able to succeed in working for yourself. However, you need to consider the need for insurance and retirement. Having a wife with young kids and no insurance or benefits sounds pretty risky to me. Have you talked to your boss about the demands of the job and how it is affecting your family life? Can you be reassigned to another role? Why not look for another job that has benefits while you are still employed?
