Thinking About Getting My First Credit Card. Need Advice.

I'm 23, have a job, I have a good enough credit score because I only have one thing on my credit and that's a checking account from a credit union.
Thinking it's time I try and add more to my credit score and keep it going in the right direction.
What is a good CC company to go with for somebody who has never had a CC before?

Chase Freedom. It's free and has 1.5% cash back on all purchases along with $150 bonus if you spend like $500 in the first 90 days.
It will be the easiest one to get that has rewards probably

Don't....but if you do pay off the balance on time every month, simple yes, but most people don't do it.

I have what I assume is no credit? I've saved for everything I've purchased (car, rent, college, etc) and am having trouble getting any cards worth a damn. Any advice? Or will I have to get a crap card and deal with it to build credit? Thanks!

I'm not really a fan of em but it is a good way to maintain a good credit score should I want to buy like a car in the future.

You can get a secured card through your bank, but when I was in college I would get blown up with cards I pre-qualified for. If you have a good job you should be able to get something. If you can't find anything online ask your banker if there's something they can set you up with.

Chase no longer offers the Chase Sapphire card to applicants (Not to be confused with Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve). I think you meant to say Chase Freedom Unlimited because that is the cash back structure for that card.

I believe you are right. Thanks for pointing out and I edited.

Like someone above said if you are having trouble getting one you can always go to your bank/credit union and ask them for one of their CC or assuming you have a decent job could take out a small general loan and pay them back every month on time. Another option is to get a gas card and that would help someone with no credit history to build one.

No worries. Figure much better than the folks who downvote and don't comment

It sounds like he's asking more which card he should get than he's having trouble getting accepted for one,
Only look at cards with no yearly fee. You'll probably get around a $500 limit on your first card. Discover was my very first credit card when I was in college and I got 1% cashback on all purchases and 5% back on the rotating special categories. Capital One and Chase both offer a similar card - none is really that much better than the other so don't put too much thought into it.
Stay on top of your payments and never carry over a balance of more than 30% of your total available credit if you want to continue to improve your score.

Discover is the best first credit card. Doubles cash back at the end of the year

I'll second the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Very simple rewards structure (1.5% on everything), no annual fee, nice little sign up bonus, and most importantly, gets your foot in the door at Chase so you can move up to their premium cards.
Pro tip: don't actually use your UR points until you have a premium card you can transfer the points to.

Don't listen to this guy. Anybody with an ounce of self-control can and should use credit.

I have an acct with BoA and just got a pretty solid card. Comparable to what I was looking at with the Capital One Venture so we'll see how it goes!

Starter card like a Capital One or Discover card. An alternative is to get a card through your credit union if they offer them. You have a relationship there.
A checking account does nothing to help with a credit score. The OP literally has no credit file.

Got my first credit card at 23 too. Went with the blue cash every day card from American Express. Highly recommend it.
