Depends on your field. I've considered it, but it would just be a personal accomplishment, it would do nothing for my career.

As bad as the legal job market has been, I'm not sure what I would be doing if I did not have an LLM. If you can make one of those schools work, I would do it.

The LLM might get you a higher entry salary, but after a few years of relevant professional experience it really has no value.

If you can get in, do it.

Also, choosing between the three, I'd probably go to Georgetown and work in DC a while afterward.

I also went to law school for free (but still will have six figures in debt when you tack on LLM).

Do you turn down an opportunity to get an LLM in tax from NYU (#1), Georgetown (#2), or UF (#2)?

If you can't count to 3 maybe an LLM in taxation isn't the best idea.

I'd love to go back and get an LLM in Energy Management from UT, but it'll never happen unless I win the lottery. So yeah, go back before you have a mortgage and a family and whatnot.

Consider the cost of living in those three places as part of the cost as well.

My best friend just finished the LLM program at UF last year. Every time I talked to him, he seemed like he was enjoying it and glad he did it. He ended up taking a job offer that he already had on the table before deciding to get his LLM (at least I don't think the offer was contingent on the LLM), but I think he expect's it to help him out in the future.

Congratulations! I'd go to NYU, tbh. It's the best for a reason.

Oh I thought you were ranking your options. I would go to NYU because in my mind the extra expense would be worth it for the experience and the network. And every new lawyer worth his salt should have 6 figures of debt. But definitely take your state's bar before going. Get that out of the way.

LLM in Energy Management? That exists?

Yep. If it were more narrowly-tailored to oil and gas I would try harder to make it work, but from what I've read you also take classes on conservation and alternative energy.

I'm just here to answer questions. You're in there to pay the light bill today. They hope the kids that got scholarships pay the light bill tomorrow.

Such a racket. In any event good luck.
