I didn't get in it but to be fair FB stock started off the same exact way, maybe even a little worse.

I wanted to buy a put yesterday but didn't. I had a strong feeling they would tank.

Didn't buy at IPO, only a fool would buy then. Seriously thinking about jumping in tomorrow though.

Why do you keep comparing snapchat to FB?

Instagram >>> Snapchat

Snapchat is nothing like Facebook. Trying to compare them is stupid and it will only cost you money.

I love hearing people talk about how Snapchat is "only for teens," etc.

FB was once the province of only 18-22 year olds who had a .edu address. It's become one of the most dominant 6-7 tech names and in large measure is how most people consume news and relate to their community. It's how more and more people see the world when it comes to the internet.

Snapchat got laid low by Instagram (owned by FB) copying many of their features, and that's always always always a problem because killer apps are fewer and far between.

Remember how popular Vine was? Remember LSU Football updating its Twitter using its Posterous Account? Remember when Twitter bought Posterous? Yeah...don't feel bad. Many folks don't.

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts that are wondering why more small businesses aren't finding savvy ways to guerilla market using IG and Snapchat and some of the ways people who are using it is fairly cheap and yet novel and impactful.

Today's 20 something is tomorrow's 30 something. Just like they were 20 somethings to FB as well.

(Again, not saying Snapchat is the next FB)

When FB went public they already had a mass following/users. It didn't go live when only .edu folks could sign up.

Furthermore, FB is quite unique in that it was able to capitalize on the social media rise (something myspace couldn't do, which I believe was ahead of its time) with diversity.

Snapchat has one niche and that's seeing short clip videos and this niche has a teen-young adult audience. It's a hook-up app that has really no interesting features for family members and the older generation that can't be had elsewhere. FB is diverse and IG is getting diverse.

Still photos and permanent videos with captions and comments is what everyone likes because of attention. Unless you screenshot a snap it's gone and forgotten and everyone can't see how many people liked or commented on my snap. I pity whoever believes in Snapchat as an investment.

It also has a niche with texting someone and those messages disappearing. I think this is an investment, When FB IPO'd they had no stream of revenue and nothing to sell. Then the advertisements came later and it finally started to explode (after the share price was nearly cut in half from iPO).

You are correct that FB had stellar timing with the rise of social media but that trend is not too late just yet. Snapchat will certainly need to innovate along the way just as all the other tech companies have to continue growth. If you believe they can do then it may be an appropriate investment for you, if you don't then it's not for you and that's ok.

Snapchat has transformed communication for at the very least, HS kids.

They Snapchat each other. They don't exchange phone numbers, but exchange snapchats.

It has severely retarded teenagers social personalities.

I will certainly try to get in on this as I see it's effect in society first hand.
