What's the game plan fellas?

- $ amount to feel comfortable retiring
- age
- location
- bucket list
- etc

I'm 35.... plan to retire at 55 w/ $2.5 million ($3 million in total assets) to a lake house in the mountains in North Carolina. Plan to spend a lot of time with friends, family, and being outdoors. Hoping weed is legal by then... plan to roll some doobies and hit some trails (hiking and off roading). Lots of cooking and working on projects etc...

Whatcha got? I like to ponder on what retirement could be like...

I take it then you already are close to $1 million in assets.

Not sure about age yet. But hopefully around 2 million to do so. Arroyo Seco/Taos NM area. Ski, fish, hike and live in the mountains. Bucket list: travel across Utah with a Opus camper.

Rule of 72 says if you make 9% you would have about $2.4m in 20 years. Don't let those naysayers bum you out. And that's without continuing to save.

I'll play along... I'd like to buy a small place close to the beach, maybe Costa Rica, Belize, or Ecuador, not sure yet as well as a paid off house here (probably downsize)... 38 now, and have a small child so I'm locked up until probably 58 before I can retire.

I like Costa Rica because it's close enough to get a pilot's license and be able to fly there and back. I'll admit I don't know if this is possible, but it seems on early research that the range and distance work on a small twin engine plane.

The houses would be paid for as would the plane so I could probably get by with less than $2m.

I like the idea of Central and South America also.

It would take a high dollar plane to fly it non stop. I don't think you could make it in a king air or a citation even.

Yeah, was figuring on either a Miami or Yucatan stop. So you're saying there's a chance?!?
