Don't most American Funds charge 5.75% fee up-front?
American Funds is good, but you can get same or better with the other major players - Vanguard, Fidelity, Pimco, T.Rowe, etc.
Yes, they carry a heavy front end load, which can be reduced with large investments. But, over the long term, American Funds has outperformed it's peers and their returns have more than made up for the up front cost. Plus I think they may be load waived if they're invested in a roth, not sure though.
