Bent bumper? What kind of car are you driving that has a steel bumper?

Agree with previous poster if you got his info. If you're planning to trade it in to a dealer on a new car, they're gonna low ball you on an old car no matter the condition. If you're planning to sell privately, and you can fix it for less than 500 or so, I'd do that.

Sure. You could take him to court. Uninsured are usually pretty skittish at the threat of being hauled into a courthouse.

The LE posters here will have a definitive answer, but my guess is that you are SOL.

Got a friend who's a lawyer? Send a letter on legal letterhead requesting immediate payment of an attached repair estimate. Or send the same strongly worded letter on your own letterhead. If you take him to small claims court he's probably not going to be a convincing liar. I definitely don't recommend walking up to him in any setting. A guy who doesn't have auto insurance isn't far from other criminal behavior.

I backed into a Kia minivan and put a tiny hole in the plastic bumper with my hitch. The guy sent me a bill for $775. I felt like I was getting jobbed but what could I say?

why would he pay you if he doesn't have insurance. plus you screwed the next guy that he runs into. you don't go to jail for no insurance unless he has other problems with the law.

yes, you can file an insurance claim w/o a police report.

you can just call the police at any time and have one done up.

What if the guy denies everything? What makes that any difference if I call the police and claim YOU hit my car?

Yeah you should have called and gotten a report. Who the hell gets arrested for not having insurance anyway?

He would have gotten a ticket for no insurance and the courts could have made him pay you restitution.

The cops are gonna laugh at you if you call for a report now.

We were rear ended a year ago. It didn't look like we had any damage but got the guy's insurance info and didn't call the cops.

Had it checked and we needed $500.00 of work on the bumper (BMW). Filed the claim with his insurance (Go Auto, if I remember correctly).

Go Auto called us a few days later denying the claim. Their customer said I hit him in a Wal Mart parking lot. :(

He then proceeded to file a claim with our insurance company. We told our insurance company NOT to pay the claim.

We got busy and never pursued going after this no good a-hole.

At the very least, I wish I had taken pictures of the accident scene. It was on Siegen and so freaking scary just parked on side of that busy street.

I have told everyone I know to always get a police report NO MATTER WHAT! You have to protect yourself from these no good people who want what you have worked hard for!

what does it matter?

this isnt law and order. It doesnt matter how the damage got there, its a claim on HIS insurance.

no, they'll take his statement the same as if it were at the scene.
