Question on CPA exam- Expiring NTS

I'm scheduled to take FAR this Thursday, which is also the day my NTS expires.
I'm woefully underprepared. I haven't done a good job at all staying disciplined and focused from Thanksgiving through now.
I don't think there is any reasonable chance I pass. I'm contemplating cancelling my exam and letting the NTS expire, and rescheduling in a month. Many will say I should just take it and try, no harm in failing, but I desperately need to pass in this window.
If I cancel the exam with Prometric, and let the NTS expire, does that count as failing the exam meaning I will not be eligible to take it again until April? My understanding is it will not count as a fail, but I will lose all the NTS fees and have to reapply for a new one. Want to make sure that is correct though.

You didn't actually take the exam so it won't count for the "one chance per exam per window" as that rule is there since all the exams given for a section in a window come from the same test bank, and variations are made between windows (one of the reasons for the month break).
Can you get a new NTS and actually schedule (and take) the exam in this window?

I believe I will be able to. There are still plenty of times open. I guess it will mostly depend on how long it takes to get a new NTS. As this one is expiring, I'm not sure how long it will take in the system before I can apply again for it.

Back when I took the exams in 06, it took forever to get an NTS. Like over a month. And you had to then schedule the exam, which was always tough at the end of the window.
Exam windows fill up like church, from the back to the front

I did the process w/o taking the exam a few years back. Now I'm back at it and got my NTS literally the next day. I didn't even resubmit transcripts/photos etc like I did a few years ago.

You'll be fine. You'll just lose your fees. Just go ahead and get another NTS and you'll definitely get it in time to schedule an exam before the end of February (end of testing window)
