I'm not talking about the numbers. It's your overall mentality towards debt.

Really? Paying less money overall means I have a bad outlook on debt now? I'd love to hear your justification for that claim.

Not all of us are buying more house than we can afford right now, based on a "maybe so". Buy today what you can afford today.

That's never the wrong answer. Again, I'm sorry you didn't get the answers you wanted, but good luck with it.

How can we "not afford" it, and what is this maybe so nonsense. We have plenty if income to qualify for more house than is like to buy. Just the work histor for my fiancée is small? How does that mean we can't afford it?

And I got he answered I was looking for on the first page. Then 3 more pages of stuff I didn't ask for.

I see. Well then, G-d bless. (I really don't know what you wanted. I'm not sorry I tried to help you, but you don't make it easy, brother.)

All I wanted was a direct answer to the question in the title. Apparently the answer is 6-12 months, which is perfect since we wouldn't be doing anything before that time frame anyway.

I never asked if my plan was prudent financially or f it was a good idea. I'm more than capable of looking at our budget and deciding that for myself. I didn't really need you and the others repeating the same things (things that I already know btw) over and over. Couple that with you high and mighty bullshite about enjoying my debt mountain, it's just unnecessary.

bullshite. You didn't clear 4400 a month on 55k gross. That is literally not possible.

It helps to read before calling someone out on bullshite

Dagnabit, I went back and checked quicken. Gross (not AGI), 55k, expense account 4k, gifts 1k. Seriously.

55 salary, 4k expense account, 1 k gift.

All in the same sentence so it's not like you should have missed it.

60k.

Please. 5k untaxed income now counts in a gross number? Like I said before, the guy was full of shite exaggerating trying to make a point. Not to mention that it still wouldn't account for any retirement or insurance, which he said he had. It's cute that all y'all are banding together to defend this nonsense though.

She plans to be out of work at most a month for birth. And that's only if she needs a c section for some reason. She is career driven and wants to work even when she has kids.

I'm confused as to why you think it's not a valid statement.

He did what he claimed and he said it was with 60k a year.

What would have been disingenuous was saying he did it with 55k and NOT meationing the additional 5k revenue stream.

But since you love breaking it down into smaller numbers....are you really crying foul over his statement that he was able to saved 30k in a single year with 60k just because of around ~500 dollars on taxes he skipped on.

Really?

Really?

Good luck with that. That is pretty ambitious and she will probably have a completely different view when the time comes. Hormones change their way of thinking. Glad I didn't depend on her income. I have an 8 month old and she isn't going back anytime soon

You are double dipping on your complaints.

He said he held off on retirement for that one year, and his insurance was covered by the expense reimbursement you bitched about not paying taxes on.

Because he said he also could do it with 50, then he was not honest about his numbers. If you're trying to make about about saving money on a certain income, you best not lie about the numbers. Takes away any credibility.

No, he said he *probably* could do it in 50.

As in, having done the budget he had in retrospect he feels there was more belt tightening he could have done.

I'm not double dipping on anything. He said he made small contributions to retirement and he still had to pay for his medical. He just said it was much cheaper back then.

Sure he could, as long as he got some more tax free income he doesn't count.

She won't change her mind. We have friends that are parents. One a stay at home mom with no marketable skills, and the other that is ambitious and successful while still being a mom. My fiancée will be the latter, because that what she wants.
