How do middle and upper class white families in BR afford tuition for 3 kids and then lead an upper class life? They have the two story house, two cars (SUV) , and yearly vacations, and all kinds of toys.

Alot of Asian families in BR send their kids to public school and then live more modest lives. IDK about black or Hispanic families. What is the math behind this? What kind of jobs are they working?

Paycheck to paycheck, credit card debt, grandparents, etc.

When you find out, you let me know

most of the parents of kids in class with mine are small business owners, professionals(attorneys, CPAs, Drs, etc) or just have family money

ETA: we sacrifice in other areas to be able to afford tuition

If they were living more modestly, I would say sacrifice.

For the ones you mention, they are either in debt over their eyeballs, or paying with family money. Baton Rouge has a metric ton of old money.

Pretty sure it's family money.
I'm jelly lol.

Have a buddy of mine whose downpayment for his house will paid by his grandparents.

Not in Baton Rouge but in Houston.

We've decided to pay for the extra expense of private school versus college. One or more may not want to go to college, at least this way a solid foundation was built.

I wonder about a fried of my wife in BR. A couple of years ago, she had 4 kids in private school. Has a good sized house, a few vehicles (kids on insurance). Wife does not work, husband is an engineer.

Overtime...lots and lots of overtime. It's the sacrifice we have had to make. We stay out of debt as well. If we need a big purchase look for interest free sales. Cook at home rather than dine out. We don't buy the kids all their wants. Our focus right now is kids education and retirement.

Simple answer is we sacrifice in other areas.

We do not drive brand new expensive cars. We did not overextend on a mortgage.

If you want your kids to go to private school it is definitly a sacrifice. But one well worth it with the crappy public schools in LA.

Not to mention every paycheck I throw a little bit in savings toward next years tuition and expenses.

Combination of family support and cutting back in other areas. My wife and her brother went to private school that was paid for from their Grandparent's estate. While it was a modest amount, her parents passed that money along for their kids.

I'm the oldest of 4 and about the only thing that didn't apply to us as it relates to private school was driving the new cars. My dad is self-employed (CPA) and mom stayed at home while we were growing up.

My wife as well. So much value in this, immeasurable.

Right now, I don't think my wife and I could make that work. She may go to a more flexible schedule to allow her to work only when the kids are in school.

My current work environment is pretty flexible as well so I'm sure we could both work and still maintain some level of normalcy for the non-existent children we have

I don't even understand the question. There are people who make a ton of money everywhere in the world. Why does this seem so odd?

People also seem to think that BR is some backwards city with a bunch of people working for $15/hr. When the reality is its a state hub for a lot of professional jobs (law, accounting, engineering, medicine, technology/IT, etc.) and two working adults making $150k+ household can afford those things described by the OP.

I had the admission director at one of the expensive private schools in Mississippi tell me that 60 percent of the kids at her school had at least some of their tuition paid by the grandparents.

Two of the few things my ex wife and I agreed on was her staying home with the kids when they were little and doing whatever it took to provide them with the best education possible. It required a lot of sacrifices but in the long run it was all worth it.

I think a household income of 150k is the magic number.

Its because of the state deduction for private school tuition that JBE will be cutting in the special session.
