Looking to take out a personal loan for 15,000. Have excellent credit and should be able to get a great rate. How do I shop around without having my credit run too many times?Probably a stupid a question because I assume you can't be told what the rates are until they run your credit, but I'll ask anyway.

If you know what your score is they can tell you a ball park rate if you call around.

I believe you can have your credit checked numerous times within a specific window of time and it basically counts as one ding. (I think its a month-loan officer can probably tell you) Otherwise how could you reasonably shop things like a home loan etc

Check online with Lighstream. The lowest my credit union would go on a personal was 9.1 and I got it for 4.3 with lightstream.

I also believe just checking rates is only a "soft" inquiry and this will not effect your credit score. Some of the credit bureaus do not even present the soft hits on your report.
