JWN, along with the majority of the retail sector, is getting hammered. Just blew past their 52-week low. I just find it hard to believe that Amazon is hurting retailers this much. More specifically, clothing retailers. I feel like most folks want to see and touch their clothes before purchasing them. I could be wrong.

Nordstrom has a great online shopping site...as well as a great online discount/clearance website, Nordstrom Rack.

I just think retail clothing is in trouble man. I basically just go to saks when i need clothes and they always have a 50% off or more sale rack, always. It used to be once every few months now its ALWAYS. To me thats a big eye opener and I highly doubt that many people even pay full price. I actually grabbed a suit I wanted a couple months ago and the sales associate knew me and said let me put it on the side and come back in a week we're doing a sale you'll get it half off of an already half off price.

My fiance, god help me, her stores some of them literally mail her a box to the house full of clothes, she picks what she wants and sends the rest back in a box with postage paid for by the store and they just charge her card she has on file there. I just cant see these gigantic malls and retailers thriving in this era when clothes can easily be mailed to your house. Who knows maybe their margins go up if they downsize all the stores and just have smaller offices they direct ship from one day, but for me way better growth opportunities than retail stores.

This sounds like a great shopping experience, one that most certainly would get my business going forward you aren't going to get that shopping online

Like anything else these big box stores are adjusting. Most of them will have your clothes to you in 1-2 days at the latest if bought online, Macy's is something like the nations 6th biggest online retailer.

To the OP, I don't think Amazon is the reason sales are down at most retailers. I think there has been a change in buying and where people are spending their money. 15 years ago, malls were literally the only place to buy clothes.

its just like who would ever pay full price for any article of clothing ever, the retail is price is borderline comical. I bought a brioni suit that had a $6,200 sticker for $1700 + tax. Thats still way too high but I dont buy suits everyday so its nice to have one that will last a long time. IF anyone pays $6200 theyre just too rich, I just think with how easy it is to shop around today via your phone or laptop that these retailers have a big adjustment period moving forward vs say 1995 where if you wanted something that store was your only option
