Switching jobs and I'll end up with a 30-day lapse in coverage for the month of October.

- I've heard that you have 60 days to enroll in COBRA and can do it "retroactively". Meaning, if I did end up in the hospital on October 10th, I'd simply need to call and enroll and I'd be covered.

- If this isn't the case, any suggestions on a plan for a month for a healthy male in his 20's?

I'm not paying $425.

The emergency plan insurance sounds like a candiddate...I'm shocked your COBRA premium is only $425.

Might want to just ante up the $425- You might save $100 bucks or so if you go through somebody else but the time, paper work, etc probably won't be worth it IMHO.

Blue Cross has a short term policy you can easily and cheaply obtain.

I'm not brilliant by any stretch but I'd just go without health insurance for the month

Sweet. I'll hold off enrolling in COBRA unless an event arises that I need it from 10/1 to 10/31.

I would limit your posting on the gaming and soccer board, if that's a real concern.

Under COBRA, you have 60 days to elect coverage, and then 45 days to pay. Be sure to elect it on day 59 (in case you make a mistake) and then you can wait another 44 days to pay the premium IF you had a high claim - or don't have new coverage.

I've done this a few times. Never paid a cent.

My new coverage kicks in on 11/1, so do I need to do anything at all when I leave my current employer? Assuming I don't have any claims in October.
