My 403b lost 4K in 5 months. Noticed while rolling it over. Questions.

I have begun consolidating my retirement accounts. Healthcare job we are notorious for changing every 3-4 years. Well I've finally tidied them all up and am rolling them (was a total of 4 now 2) all into the one I currently contribute to.
I also have a Roth IRA. Noticed that the 403 lost $4,000. I now will begin to follow them more closely. OR is it just an exercise in misery and futility to watch them? Let it ride? I've always thought about tinkering with the investments within the plan, but I am no Warren Buffet and realize that me moving my money around is a shot in the dark. Hell I'd be better served putting it all in Draft Kings. I know more about football than stocks and investing.
Are you guys fixated on your plans or more mellow and check it occasionally?

How much is in it? $4k in a six figure account isn't a huge deal. If you only have $20k total then its different but I'm guessing that's not the case.
Let it ride.
Let it ride.

It would help to know what percentage $4k is within your 403.

Most of us quit right before things get better.
I would focus on keeping the costs of your investments very low. If you are paying more than .5% for and equity fund, you should look for lower fee options. In the long run, most funds will give average returns so reducing expenses can help.
Example: If you have 100,000 dollars in a 401k and pay 1% management fee per year that is 1000 dollars per year. Reduce your cost to .5% and you pay 500 dollars less per year per 100,000 invested. Over time this really adds up.
There are some funds that charge less than .1% and the federal TSP has the lowest fees I've seen at .07% or so.

Ahh, the low fee argument again. Here we go.

I did not say it was the only thing to consider, but many 401Ks have limited options so looking at fees is a consideration.
Personally, I own individual equities in my own accounts, but for my workplace accounts I use the lower cost funds.

I like AAPL now.
I'm long MO, XOM, PG, AXP, JNJ, NWL and some others like ADTN, INTC.
I've gotten beat up a bit in KORS, KRO and Cheasepeake among others.

Many have gotten kicked in their teeth with Chesapeake, Linn and others. I was wondering if you had tickers for mutual funds. I had a client call me and swore chk would not go below $6.50. I told him that momentum is a bitch.

I check the market once a day, simply because I don't like surprises. I'd like to notice that the market is tanking instead of doing a 6 month check and realizing I've lost 15%. That's when bad decisions get made.
But I check to make it easier to leave my investments alone. If you think checking is going to tempt you into stupidity, just set your account to auto invest and try to ignore it for as long as possible.

Vanguard Windsor II was the lowest cost equity fund in my plan. Not sure about symbol. I rarely check my workplace account.
