The 8 phone is just now being rolled out Im not sure what you expect. Corporations WILL move to 8 as the service expires and they will want integration where they can use their corp security on their phones something the iPhone is pathetic at. The iPhone is a great toy but cant even set an out of office and is pretty bad at mail folder management and notification. The RIM phones were much better for companies but they are sinking. MSFT has the ability to do something there with windows 8 that no other company can touch.

Microsoft's phone platform will be a huge bust. I give it a Men's Warehouse guarantee.

I have to disagree. I personally don't know of any company that prevents people from bringing their iPhones or Android to work and I deal with a lot of them at work. The RIM security is myth. Companies can do stuff now on iPhones and Androids like remote wipe etc. which they could only do with Blackberries back it its heyday.

Also it seems like there is a story every other day about another government agency ditching Blackberry for iPhone/Android. Surely if security was an issue, these agencies wouldn't be switching, right?

The problem is my last 3 jobs, we had to buy our own phone. That limits the

Hell, they are trying to get us to buy our laptops these days. I haven't done so, b.c they claim the data is the corporations and they can wipe your computer if you get leave....frick that.

Is this a technological vulnerability cycle? The more people investing into Android and iOS will attract enough hackers, allowing Microsoft to catch up with the endless number of security holes that have been exploited over the years?

I'm not on the Apple train, but one of the main attractions to Apple I have always had is the feeling of security you get with Apple devices.

Companies running on Exchange are living in the past. Google Apps is much better.

Let's see... I can buy Exchange for my 600 users for $50,000 and have it last me for 4 or 5 years or longer, or I can spend $30,000+ per year for Google Docs.

It's nothing more than a feeling. Apple stuff is no more secure than anything else.

Exchange is terrible.

Gmail/Google Apps (mail service) is 100* better.

Out of curiosity why are you planning on switching?

Put simply, Microsoft fell victim to their success.

They were fat, happy and napping and the move to mobile over the last five years rolled them while they were not looking. It is an age old story.

As for now, Microsoft pretended that Surface and W8 were them catching up when the fact of the matter is they have already lost to Google and Apple and they can't catch up. Their hold on enterprise is going to deteriorate because of this and this is already happening.

Surface and W8 were their big moves and it appears they have failed.

Just like Kmart / Walmart in the late 80's/early 90's.

Another article echoing similar sentiments:

8 Things Microsoft is doing wrong

I wonder if MS will eventually (many years from now) will go the direction of big blue IBM. Completely cede the consumer market and just focus on enterprise offerings.

Agreed, I work for a big bank that has been VERY RIM-centric for a long time and even we're now getting on board with BYOD.

I don't see any way W8 mobile catches on.

I really like the idea of the surface but I can't see mobile doing anything. MSFT going in the IBM direction would not surprise me at all and I think if Ballmer is sent packing someday then that is what will happen.
