Legally separated in Jan. 2015 Tax question?

Divorce not final until next week. If I read correctly in Louisiana I will have to file 2015 taxes either Married jointly or Married separate. We have a good relationship even after we split so filing jointly will not be an issue I just to verify this is correct.
Thank you in advance.

In Louisiana you are either married or divorced.
The are some options here - do you pay child support? Do you have a good relationship with the ex? Do you have additional income you have earned since filing your HO final all report?
If you pay child support, most likely file married separate. No child support and good relationship- file married joint.
Many many factors - if you and her are cool, I would file whatever would keep her calm and move the frick on. Peace from th ex can be valuable.

I'm in the same situation. I've assumed I'll file whatever gives the best refund. We're on good terms and will split any refund fairly.
Next year.....filing Single even though technically married a few weeks of 2016.

You file based on your status as of 12/31, even if you were married until 12/30.

You should file MFJ since your relationship with your ex spouse is good. You file as your marital status as of the last day of the year, December 31st.
