Man I envy you. I feel like the day I cut that final student loan check will be the greatest day of my life.

Now don't go do that again

Congrats. If you can keep it that way you will be a wealthy person.

Thanks guys! I am so happy I had to share it!
The only debt I will ever accept going forward will be the mortgage on my new house. Even that makes me uncomfortable, but it is almost impossible to circumvent.

Debt isn't bad, as long as it's backed by an asset.
ETA: Congrats though, student loans definitely aren't backed by an asset.
I'm down to 6k from 82k.

That is a great way of looking at it.

Care to tell us more? How long did it take? What kind of degree did you pay off?

I just have mine set to auto draft.. Too depressing to write that large of an amount each month out.

You are awesome! You deserve a standing ovation.
I did this (with my wife's help) about 5 years after we got out of school.
Awesome feeling.
Now I just want the final bill (mortgage) paid off too.

Congrats! We aggressively paid off our loans ~$65k in 2 1/2 years by taking a fair amount of my wife salary and putting it towards the loans and lived off of mine only. This was pretty tough but with 6.8 percent interest I wanted to knock this out as fast as possible.
(UN-Subsidized for grad school)
Now we are still basically doing the same but saving and investing my wifes salary! It's been an amazing feeling!! Try and continue to save the student loan payment (or more).

No but this is clearly an exception (more often than not). An engineering degree from instate tuition is not something I regret and definitely believe I would not have the salary I currently have without it. I pay $157 in student loans a month and the degree definitely got me a larger raise than $157 a month upon completion. Getting laid off is a different story now...
