I have no investing experience, but want the money just adding to my savings account to do something, but if I started now am I just setting myself up for the next big drop in the market? My main goal is to take a about half of what we have in the bank and have it start earning towards the purchase of a new home as our family grows, purchasing 4-5 years from now, if that helps anyone with advice. Thanks!

Get referrals to an FA in your area. Shop/interview them.

They'll help you with your short term and long term savings goals. And they'll set up a brokerage account for you, if that's what ends up being the best approach.

The best time to start investing is when you have $1 more than you need.

Putting half of what you have in the market with the intent to take it out in 4-5 years is far too risky of an idea for most people.

definitely invest. I wouldn't put the money you need in 4-5 years in the stock market. My advise would be investing the money you don't need for 10+ years

two quotes that come to mind, which aren't verbatim but are close:

"Every 6-7 years investors forget that there is a pullback every 6-7 years"

"In the last 100 years there have been over 100 10% market corrections. Think of the volatility like christmas, you know they're coming - don't let it surprise you"
