I have a design drawn out by a draftsman for a place of business in a new strip mall. I need to get BR city permits and fire marshal permit. Can I get an engineer stamp and or architect? Will either do?? Thank you for any advice!

You shouldn't need an architect, but you probably will need an engineer stamp. I assume the mall took care of the landscape and drainage plans. The fire marshal is very easy to work with. Bring your plan in and they have someo me who will look at it and give you advice. The parish permit office......

i assume this if for EBR.

Go the BRGov.com website:

BRGOV - Plan review permit application with checklist

EDIT:

quote:

1. Submit Application Form to Plan Review along with plan review fee. (See front of application for fee calculation) Include: One set of hard copy commercial plans, drawn to scale bearing the seal of a Louisiana Architect and/or Civil Engineer on each page and one set of digital plans, PDF format. Mechanical Engineer's seal is required when heating and air conditioning unit(s) are 10 tons or more. Electrical Engineer's seal is required when electrical service size is 600 amps and greater or a 480- volt system.

Exception

An Architect or Civil Engineer's seal may not be required for additions or new buildings constructed of wood frame where the area is less than l,500 sf with structural spans less than 18 feet. If a seal is not required, a Certificate of Responsibility Form, signed by the contractor and the owner is required. (Form furnished by Commercial Plan Review Section). All Assembly, Educational, & Institutional occupancies require sealed plans.

an architect is almost never necessary for anything other than making life difficult

Is this just a build out of a empty suite, or modifying a current suite? If so, you can get a commercial building contractor and he/she will take care of pretty much all of it. The individual trades will take care of their permits / inspections.

if the plans have been signed and sealed by a P.E., that should count as the professional requirement. I know an architect can design some smaller structures as mentioned above without a P.E.

Thank you and I do not need an architect! I need a mechanical eng only. I had an architect give me an estimate of $7000 for his stamp

Ive gone in plenty of times with floor plans I did on Visio. No problems if you're not fooling with structural walls and the like.

They will help walk you through it with a plan review.
