A couple of years back when I started paying quarterly taxes someone told me to send a certified check.(don't remember who or why they thought that was better) That's fine but it costs $10 per shot from the bank and I have to go through the trouble of going get it. Do you just send a personal check?

Personal check. What is the advantage of a certified check?

That's pretty much my question. I was just paying it that way because someone who also paid quarterly tax was doing it. Figured I'd poll MT and make sure I wasn't missing something.

By check...I'm not using an online service and paying a fee, when a regular ol' check works just fine.

Definitely. I don't always pay it online, but often do to meet minimum spend on a rewards CC that will get me much more value than the cost of 1.87%. I'm usually only paying a few grand anyways.

Personal check. I don't see the need to pay it any other way.

You sure they didn't tell you to send it via certified mail, not a certified check? We recommend certified Mail.

Do you have to pay fees to pay online? Do you do bank draft or credit card?

I once read on my return or somewhere when filing if I did bank draft they had authorization to take more money out when I read the fine fine print. So, I vowed to never set up a bank draft.

Point earning debit card (suntrust delays for me - although they are jacking with it now). 2.59 online fee for several thousand points - easy math

Personal check, though it's horseshite that I have to pay quarterly. What in the hell is the difference if I have a bigger liability at the end of the year? I'm a big boy and can handle saving and paying on April 15. What a damn racket.

I'd bet that person said they send a personal check by certified mail to establish proof of mailing on the actual due date for their payment. But that still would cost at least $3.60 per payment in postal fees.

Many of my clients pay nowadays using EFTPS.

Ha. I'm not sure actually. That's a good thought though.
