How do you find out the dealer cost on a new vehicle (Ref THE Will Cover Method)

I'm not talking about the invoice price. The actual dealer cost. I need to know this in order to start the negotiating process on some outgoing year models in a few months.

I'd imagine that is a closely held secret because people will probably go in the negotiating table thinking that number + $100 is a fair price.

Agreed... So why is this even a listed negotiating tactic? It's even listed in the Money Talk Guide below:

Back in college, a friends uncle owned a dealership. The lowest he would go was dealer cost plus 500.

They come thinking that number -500.00 is fair. "Yall are making millions so it does not matter blah blah"

I don't think he suggests knowing what the dealer cost is.
Just know the invoice price and be aware that there is profit for the dealer built into that price.

Mind going to my thread about diminished value? I'm curious what you'd value my vehicle at after it's fixed but with the accident claim. Or I could shoot you an email. Either way.

you will never know the true cost of the car to the dealer, very complicated by design, lots of incentives, hold backs, etc. very few people in the dealership are privy to the full lot of information. and "invoice price" is utter bullshite and means nothing

I have a guy go to Milwaukee and buy cars coming off of lease at auction. I pay him fairly for this. The cost to buy the car, and his agreed upon profit. I don't engage dealers. I have nothing against them, it's just very few have ever done any business with me. I don't owe them anything. I'm not going to engage the car salesperson either. Ever.
Review the warranty, factory and aftermarket as applicable. By review, I mean read it, and especially the exclusions. Buy a decent one unless you want to self insure, and forget it.
Get online at insuremyrentalcar.com. Takes care of loss of use (rental income) and diminution of value on rentals.
But a small personal liability umbrella. Maybe 5-6MM.
I'm sure something similar could be done at every locale.
I'm different though. B1G country and all of that.

Others may scoff at this but I think truecar.com is in ballpark. Thinking about trading my wife's 2012 crosstour for new pilot.
