Just trying to gage my credit score, I don't feel like paying to find out.

They get one of the agencies' actual score now. They were about 10 points off (low) for me, prior to that.

I haven't noticed a lot of spam offers, either. They do push "offers" on you when you log in, but that's easy enough to ignore. I tell you what - I have learned a lot about credit scoring from them and I thought I was fairly knowledgable to begin with.

You can get your credit score free with a lot of credit cards, BTW.

I don't really think opening more credit card lines would be beneficial for me as my avg age of credit is only 3 yrs with my oldest being 5yrs. I believe that's hurting my credit score significantly because Ive never missed a payment and always on time (A+ according to credit Karma) I always stay between a 1-3% credit utilization (A+) no derogatory remarks (A+) and no hard inquiries (A+.) But I also only have 9 total accounts (5 open, 4 closed) which is somehow another ding. I've been really good with credit but my score doesn't seem to reflect.

When I bought my car a few months ago, credit karma said I had a 768 credit score. When the dealership pulled my credit for financing, it was something like 735. Pretty substantial difference.

I think he meant a lot of credit cards offer to give you your score for free. Not that you should open more accounts.

When I bought a car two months ago my credit Karma score was 743. The dealership ran the credit app and it came back 781.

They were low for me by a pretty big margin. I quit looking after that. Don't remember the exact numbers but it was like 50 points low.

If you have a discover card they give you your FICO score every month.

I have a no fee card that I keep open with them but never use just for that purpose.

I'd imagine because the dealership is pulling all three scores and using your middle score. While Credit Karma is only pulling one.

This and the 10-mile roadside assistance are why I keep my Discover around.

Even if it is off a few points, it gives you a good idea of what you're working with. It's not like there's a number above which everyone is approved and below everyone denied. It will show you what one of the bureaus is reporting and with that you'll have a better idea of where you stand.

Nah, it's because Credit Karma weights your factors differently than FICO does. I use Credit Karma for information purposes but your CK score can be WAY different than your FICO score. I checked mine against my TransUnion FICO (the score CK uses) and it was around 50 points off.

Pretty sure Credit Karma has always pulled your TUNA report. But they use their own scoring solution to produce your score. Fair Isaac isn't owned by any of the bureaus and that's the score most people will recognize.
