Has anyone had success getting negative reporting off credit report?

I've got a few dings and am trying to pony up for a house soon. Still need some improvement to get into the next tier.
I've seen some stories online that if you bug and follow up enough, a lot of companies won't bother confirming with credit agencies and they will then remove dings from your report?
Has anyone had success with this?

Getting something taken off your credit report that you have backup documentation for is insanely difficult. I can't imagine getting something legitimate off is any easier.
Took me eight months to correct a 30 days late on a credit card in which my balance was negative. Banks computers were formatted to notify credit bureaus if balance = /= 0 and no payment was received rather than balance > 0.
I contacted credit bureaus.
Bank contacted credit bureaus.
I contacted them again.
Bank stopped caring.
Finally, out of the blue, it was corrected.

I have a negative that I cant remove.
Alltel decided to make 2 accounts for the same phone number & billed me twice.
When I closed the account, they said I owed them $158. I told them I already paid, but they wanted proof. I couldnt provide proof for a duplicate account that I never opened.
Its still on my account since I refused to pay them twice.

It can be done but you have be tenacious. The people on the other end of the phone have zero motivation to help you.
I had a fraudulent business credit card opened in my name that I found out about before I started house shopping. I had to file a police report, call multiple collection agencies that the debt had been sold to, was straight up called a liar when I tried to explain the situation to one agency, and ended up working for a few months before it was resolved. I jumped through a ton of hoops but it eventually worked out.

My sister's and my name are 1 letter apart, and despite us being 3 years different in age, my parent's took us to the SS office at the same time so our SSNs are 1 digit off.
My report had all kinds of her stuff on it and she had an abysmal credit report that included 30, 60 and 90 day late payments from when she was in college, more retail credit cards than you can imagine, etc. etc.
It was a very very painful process to get it all straightened out with the 3 credit bureaus. My credit was low 600s with all of her 14 accounts on my report. Shot up to high 700s after it was all clear.. Good luck man.

They have an entire forum dedicated to this. They know what letters to write and what to say. I find it fascinating to read some of the stories there.

My wife has a ding on hers from a late hospital payment from when she just turned 18 and still in HS. Her parents had moved and didn't get the bill or something like that.
Pretty furious with them over that issue

I have a ding from Circuit City that goes off next month. Didn't try and get it removed but it did teach me a lesson.

25. Believe it should come off this year or next year.
That was from when the bill was, not from when they actually paid it off

I depostied a large check into my account yesterday. It never showed up in my account online. So, I go down to the bank today & find out they deposited the check in my dad's account. Morons!
This should have never happened, but they dont always check your drivers license, SS# or address.
They tried to blame me for not filling out the deposit slip myself. I was like, wtf do you pay your employees for?

i had a bunch of credit inquiries on my report when I applied for a house last year, like 30 inquiries in 6 months which just wasn't realistic.
They were removed pretty easily, but I had my mortgage broker help. he suggested it was attempted identify theft that didn't work.

I had some success with "Pay for Deletes" and a goodwill letter. Had some medical bills and an AT&T collection from when my wife and I merged accounts when we got married. I got a lot of good advice from the MyFico credit rebuilding forum. They have template letters and lots of solid advice.
