Something isn't right...

2 lane road, no witnesses around, hits concrete overpass in an area that has plenty of space for correction, and vehicle bursts into flames. Suicide?

Just saw this on the news...I vote suicide.

Lost the company he founded a couple years ago and his current venture AEP is a complete mess with rumors swirling that he was sideways with his main backer, Raymond, and he was being sidelined and AEP was essentially done.

Damn. I followed CHK a good bit probably right up until he resigned/was removed as the CEO. Some interesting stories about the money he spent - map collection, wine collection, etc.

Sounds like a suicide.

99.9% suicide.

Just heard them say he essentially drove straight into a wall. Very sad.

Heard he was doing about 40 over the posted speed limit. I know he's got some property out that way. I never dealt with him much while I was at CHK. Sad, strange news today.

Met him once in NY. Would love to read a book about his last thirty years. Between the Chesapeake early days, Tom Ward, his AEP dealings, and the shale gas period it would be pretty interesting. Also it's not surprising that Sandridge is the other company listed in the indictment handed down yesterday.

Wow. I refuse to believe it was suicide.

If you have access to a car, why would you choose that method? What if you live and then burn to death in the fire? Why wouldn't you just run a hose, kick back and breathe deep?

His charges carried a maximum of 10 years in prison, which means he would likely have little to no jail time. Fishy situation.

The charges were pretty weak in regards to the Feds using the Sherman act here and for all the previous times he was sued and faced turmoil. What this likely does foreshadow is that AEP is in much more trouble than people know about.

And their stock has gone through the roof today. Is that simply because of the arbitration?

And why was he driving a 2013 Tahoe? I realize he was on sort of hard times but dude was RAF...

He was driving a NGV Tahoe as of a few years ago in support of natural gas as a transportation fuel. I'm betting this is one of those NGV Tahoes.

Gotcha. I guess someone has to help consume all those reserves.

“He pretty much drove straight into the wall,” Balderrama said. “The information out there at the scene is that he went left of center, went through a grassy area right before colliding into the embankment. There was plenty of opportunity for him to correct and get back on the roadway and that didn’t occur.”

Possibilities:

1) Suicide

2) Drunk

3) Not paying attention until too late

4) Car malfunction as in he lost his ability to steer

At 40 over the speedlimit in what looks like a 55-60 zone, thats prety close to a tahoe being floor boarded I would think.

Can probably cross out options 3/4. you'd assume SOME kind of correction if it was a texting thing or something and also no reason to drive 100+.

Guess it doesn't matter unless more comes out but it looks fishy.

A Tahoe's top speed is governed at around 110....so yeah, he was pretty much going all out. Probably not wearing a seat belt.

Sad for his family.
