what do I have to give my cpa in order to get that filed? just a statement of my mortgage?

Oh boy, you aren't getting that exemption for a good 6 months to a year now with how long filing takes.
Of course, I was dealing with Orleans, your experience may differ.

You file your homestead exemption with the clerk and/or assessor's office in your parish with your act of cash sale. No need to involve your CPA.

Assessor should have sent you a card to fill out and return. Just call Conrad Comeaux's office and request one. It's free.

You don't need to provide them anything other than what you paid in interest, the HUD you were provided at closing and the amount of real estate taxes paid (you can find this on the assessors website).

Homestead exemption has to do with property taxes, not income taxes correct?
You should have already gotten your property tax bill from the sheriff.

Correct. The only link is the amount of property taxes paid is deductible on your federal income taxes. Assuming you itemize.

Thanks. That's what I thought. That's why the question kind of confused me.
