re: Employers Asking for College Transcripts

All my jobs have asked for a transcript simply to verify that I have a degree in the field I stated. GPA doesn't matter unless it's super low or your first job out of school. Even then, a mistake like this isn't a big deal.
I'd still go edit it if they allow it. Honesty.

I know a guy that got a promotion to a 6 figure job with company vehicle and the works in the bag until they requested the transcripts. Problem was he didn't have a degree. Clerk at a parts store now.
Which should tell you there is something terribly wrong about that company

A lot of companies assume some level of honesty in resumes that are submitted. I think this type of thing has to be more common than it sounds.

any GOV job you will have to submit your transcripts. It shows you aren't lying about graduating.

At my firm we have been recently requesting transcripts, not really to verify the degree, but to see exactly which courses the applicant took and how well they did on certain courses.

For people that graduated 12 years ago? I understand for younger people, but for applicants with that much experience? Genuine question.

Really depends on the applicant. It is much less of a concern for someone with 10+ years of experience.

Maybe so but DuPont has been around for a long time.

I would just put cum laude on mine if I ever send a resume again. If they care that much they can find out that means 3.5 or better.

If a company knowingly hires someone who claims to have a degree that they don't have, then THAT is what actually tells you that there is something terribly wrong with the company.
Source: I tried to hire someone last year, and the background check showed that he never finished the degree he claimed on his application. The kicker is that this was for a job at a university.
