As the title suggests, I would like to get into e-commerce. Not necessarily starting from scratch; I now own a few retail stores (fairly well known, 15+ years in business) and would like to expand the company to e-commerce. What would be my best course of action to take?

Comments/Suggestions/Experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty good article about the current state of e-commerce:

Btw, how do you expect to compete against Amazon? Meaning, what can you offer that Amazon cannot offer?

Is it possible to provide a little more info? I think things like what industry and location would help to provide better responses. Are you a well known business in a fairly small market that has name recognition trying to start selling locally online or are you trying to branch out to new markets via e-commerce?

If you already have a website, and wish to optimize and start selling off of site, it's not too hard.

Obviy, if you have no site, that will be step one and any developer will know how

Shopify for the platform, ShipStation for fulfillment. So easy to do these days.

I'm in e-commerce full time. It can be a difficult industry to turn a buck in. Hopefully you have really good buying power with your vendors which is a huge advantage. As mentioned above competing with Amazon can be hard but Amazon is very weak in some areas including purchasing. They simply have too many products and categories to purchase properly in many areas of their business.

What is the general description of your industry?

Oh the horror. This is a crappy platform. Use BigCommerce.
