Credit Unions

I've always used big banks, but I see these credit unions offering 2.5-3% interest. Is there any serious reason not to use them and just get the higher interest?

The only real negative is the lack of ATMs if you leave their area often, which most people do. So if you need access to an atm statewide or larger scale, then you are going to pay fees. I'm not sure if some of them have partnerships or free ATM fees though.

Are they Sketchy? I'd be using it for an emergency fund really, so I probably wouldn't need to have immediate ATM accessibility I wouldn't think

Mine does. I can use my ATM card at just about any credit union ATM without a fee.

All my ATM fees are refunded with my credit union.

I wish mine refunded the fees. I use Kessler Federal Credit Union and I really like them. I have a credit card with them and the rate is 8.9 percent while my Capital One Quick Silver is like 23 percent. I don't pay interest because I pay it off every month but still that rate is so much better than any other Credit Card I have had.

Please name the CU paying 2.5%
They used to offer slightly higher interest on savings and checking and lower loan rates than banks but not anymore.

they still do, just limited to 10 to 15k. then they'll pay 1.5 on 25 more or so.

My checking is 3.25% up to 10k, tapers off in increments after that. No ATM fees.
Wife also has one and I recently found out we can open a third together since the account holder field will technically be different.

I just opened a free business account with ASI credit union...it was absolutely the best deal for my microbusiness. No fees if you maintain a balance of at least $250.

I've never heard of this so I need to look into it. My Credit Union has good rates but nothing close to this. It would literally make buying a car in cash foolish, you'd be better off putting the money into one of these and having the payment auto debited. That's just one example.
No Credit Unions are not sketchy at all in my experience, the opposite generally of a bank, mine is more trustworthy I'd say. I don't feel like they are trying to nickel and dime me to death.

EFCU Financial offers a Rewards checking account product at 3% up to balances of 10k. You also get ATM fees refunded with this account.
They also have very low interest rates on loans.
