Been working on my credit for close to a year now. Opened a secure CC and have utilized it perfectly and always made on time in full payments but my credit has only gone up 19 points in that time. While other friends with similar cards have gone up more. Credit is still pretty lousy but working on it. Saw the Lexington Law on Credit Karma and its supposed to help you get things taken off that should be by now and help fix credit. Just a rip off or anything to them? Or do you have any other tips to help fix credit?

The truth is that you can destroy a credit history in a very short time but it takes a long time to heal.

Look at companies like Merrick Bank or Capital One and try to get a real credit card from them with a low limit. You need more trade lines to get your score up. Good luck to you and be patient.

Yeah. I understand that. Most of the bad came from when I was 18 and stupid. Now that I am 26 and have been responsible for years it just seems like an unwinnable battle. However some should fall off after 7 years (or I was told) or I need to write and request that but still lost lol.

Things should start to fall off. How much damage could you do at 18? You couldn't have had much credit to begin with?

Are we talking about judgements and collections from medical bills?

Yep. Got roomates and everything in my name at a few places and of course people bailed and things never got payed cause I was 18 and said screw it once I got screwed by people. All pretty much medical bills/other regular bills other than credit cards. But derogatory marks seems to matter the same.

They can help you, but it is nothing you can't do yourself.

I was in a similar situation as you and thought about using Lexington Law but decided against it. They do things that you can do yourself but charge a shitload of money for it. Go to MyFico.com and read up on their "Rebuilding Your Credit" forum. Even post about your problems and people will chime in with excellent advice. You will learn about "goodwill letters" and "pay for deletes" which can help your credit greatly. They also have a lot of information about how long derogatory marks stay on your credit report. Basically, though, if these marks are over 7 years old, they should have been removed already. They can still send you collection letters and sue you until the statute of limitations is up but they MUST remove the marks after 7 years or they're in violation of the Fair Trade Agreement. The advice from there has helped me tremendously and I'm in MUCH better shape now than I was 2 years ago. I have obtained a new mortgage, got good rates on auto loans, personal loans and credit cards. Good luck.

Everything he just said was 100% completely spot on. MyFico credit forum is the tits.

It's best to read up and learn about credit and then try to dispute/rebuild yourself. As mentioned earlier in thread, you can do everything yourself what Lexington will do for you...except they are getting paid no matter what and you are looking for true results even though no results can be guaranteed by a repair company.

you are gonna get the answers "its a rip off" and "do it yourself" here, but theses services can be of efficient and effective if you aren't going to realistically write and fight with the credit bureaus. I'd look at sky blue over lexington. They seem to be much more upfront about their billing and lexington is known to be effective but pull some shady billing practices. Like someone said they can't do anything special that you can't; however, they will bombard the bureaus with letters until they delete or dont respond. Not uncommon for people to raise scores 50-100pts.

I'd be curious to hear those helped you. I've heard a lot of people say goodwill letters work for the OCCASIONAL 30 day late (like 1 in 5 years) and I've heard that a lot of banks/credit card companies will no longer do pay for deletes.
