re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion

Most of what I read about in here is for high expense people. I don't make what yall do and I don't spend that much either outside of bills such as house, car, insurances, utilities. So my main question is are those bills I pay eligible to be paid with a Credit Card? If so, then I can look into how much I spend a month.
Quite clueless on all of this but I do know I am missing out on some sweet deals by not using a Credit Card. Have fantastic credit and never really used credit cards (parents set me up by putting my name on account when younger so it build my credit because they don't miss bills, very blessed and thankful).
If I can convert those bills that I pay online onto a credit card then what should I look at getting vs. if I just use it for gas, groceries, restaurants, and entertainment?
Any advice is helpful, I've done some looking around online and been recommended a few but I'd rather exhaust every resource before I make the decision. Have read on this board plenty enough to know the advice is certainly worth my time asking.
Thanks In Advance!

Thats what me and my 11 UR points are doing until July

I pay every single bill with a CC except my mortgage.
The car note is the only one that needs further explanation, but that's another topic.

Do you do any kind of work for side income?
My personal favorite for an everyday household card and ease of understanding is the Chase Ink Plus business card. Anybody that does any kind of side work could be eligible(like mowing the neighbor's yard).
It gets 5x points on cable bill and cell phone bill. That's worth $180 minimum/year just for paying those bills in my house. It also gets 2x gas/hotels and 1x on everything else.
My recommendation would be that and pair it with the Chase Freedom. Sign up bonus alone from the two cards would start you off with $650 in cash out points or >$1,500 in travel points.

So basically I can pay the insurances and other bills with a CC but not worth the hassle or not feasible for Mortgage or Car Note. Appreciate that heads up.
I currently don't do any side work but that may be changing in which case this entire equation changes. If that happens, I'll be running back here for even more advice.
Currently looking for a card that is good with those bills and day to day expenses. My guess is anywhere from 900-1200 in a month I spend on non mortgage stuff. Likely over 1000 a month though.
Edit: That isn't a guess. I am over $1000 almost each month.

And that will work too. If you have good personal credit you should be fine.
You enter your SSN instead of a business EIN. You list your Gross Revenue as $0. You are getting the card to "track your new sole proprietorship expenses separately". Perfectly acceptable.

The American Express Serve(a prepaid bank account) provides the opportunity to pay those, but that requires some further explanation and I could link you to a couple of articles if you were interested when your card comes in.
Eta:
The other personal card I would recommend would be the Amex Premier Rewards Gold card, but I don't think that provides the ease of use for reward redemptions for new folks that the Chase products do.

I feel the same way about wearing out my welcome with Chase. Too many good options to do it, but I have read plenty about people that have been down this road before with no issues.
There seems to be a small trend growing on Flyertalk that this might be changing. A couple of people that churned a fair amount and canceled cards have been denied. It will be interesting to follow. I love points and miles but I value my credit relationships more.

I'd only classify a couple of us as high expense people. I put my business purchases on a credit card. My personal use each month isn't that much (to me). I'd say personal spending on credit cards runs from $3k-$8k a month. The $8k is typically the month after a big event like a vacation.
My business spending on credit cards is a lot more than that but of course the business pays those bills.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I'll be contract labored and won't need to get business EIN (may anyway depending on how I play it). I am in accounting for primary job (other wouldn't be related) so no lack of information on how to handle that when time comes.
I am not looking for absolute best if there is hassle involved. Peace of mind and ease is way more important. So, what card(s) are we down to for my situation (non business only, if they comes up.. I'll get a 2nd one for the business only to track my expenses anyway).

Only gonna put about $1000 a month on average. Even if the business stuff comes up, it wouldn't be in your ballpark. Haha

My average expense is only about 2,500 a month, so it's not all huge expenses. It is more about playing the game correctly. I started out with a sapphire preferred and freedom four years ago. I did regular spend and built enough points to fly round trip to Italy (business class there). I saw how much nicer this made travel, and I delved deeper into the game. I now have traveled or have already booked trips to the Dominican, Vegas, Bora Bora, Kansas, and a couple other spots with very limited manufactured spend. I now starting to get into that aspect now. I view it as a fun hobby with benefits.

That's why I like to see/post whole data points. Card usage/time/on hand/CL etc.

My suggestions:
Chase Ink Plus
With this:
Chase Freedom
or this:
AMEX PRG
This is the best personal Chase Rewards card if you're not interested in going the Chase Ink business card route:
Chase Sapphire Preffered

So basically with no business right now I am deciding between Chase Freedom, AMEX PRG, and Chase Sapphire and the decision should be based on what I do with my time (aka what are my expenses) and how much I spend a quarter?
Am I right on this?
Am I right on this?

If you get a Freedom I think the general thought is that you want to eventually pair it with the Chase Sapphire Preferred to get the full benefit of the points.
Posted on 4/30/15 at 10:20 am to VABuckeye
Gonna start with Freedom until I get comfortable using CC's and paying them off monthly, etc.
Then I'll likely add Chase Sapphire when I am ready to make a big purchase to get bonus and when I am comfortable using them.
Thanks for all the input. Greatly appreciated.

It's all about the sign up bonuses. The spend categories are nice if you generate lots of spend, but in the end, it comes down to approved apps.

Working on Dulles to St. Kitts for next year. Freaking BA site says no partner flights which is simply not true.

I'm sure its been asked multiple times, but seeing as this thread is 2700 posts deep, I'm going to go ahead and just ask again.
What is the best credit card to use strictly for gas? I opened up a mint account recently and while I knew I was spending a lot on gas, I had no idea I was spending over $300 on it.
Anyone have any good feedback?

Chase Freedom gives you 5% for two quarters of the year. Amex Blue Cash Preferred gives you 3% all year with unlimited spending on gas. Amex PRG gives 2X points on gas and groceries with no spending limit on points to earn.
I'd look at a gas and groceries card as those are common expenses. Amex Bue Cash Preferred also gives 6% cash back on groceries up to $6000 spent annually.
Do you want points, miles or cash back? That's a big factor in this.

Can be really annoying. I've found that I'm forced to log into that site and search for flights a particular way.
My steps are:
Home page and log in top right corner.
When logged in, use the flight search that's in the left margin.
If that's works, book.
If it doesn't work, hit back on the browser to return to left margin search box.
If it messes up, log out and start at home page.
I find all the other flight search boxes never work for me. Also partner flights decide to show up when they damn feel like showing up
