Also, I have read your buy duty free liquor if you want some pregame drinks and save on resort cost.

Yeah, read some stuff on TA about that. Will probably buy in Tahiti at the grocery.

I also plan on attempting to upgrade to ambassador status at the resort.

Never heard of this until you mentioned it. Just checked out the site. So they give you 1 free weekend night anywhere. Could use this on Saturday or Sunday night at their resort in Tahiti, so that's worth the $200 there. Then you get guaranteed room upgrades and late checkout. So this might be worth it if you can definitely use that free night. Thanks for bringing this up

I need to see how hard it is to use that cert.

ETA: Should have searched a little more. More info

the benefits are GUARANTEED on paid stays. They are NOT guaranteed on reward stays, but most properties do let you have them.

So I see why you will wait to get there, but that hurts the chance of using the free cert in Tahiti.
Also:

To use the voucher, you need to book a 2-night weekend stay and pay the Best Flexible Rate for the other night.

That rate is more expensive than buying a non-refundable Advance Purchase rate. But I don't usually book non-refundable rates anyway.

My bucket list for trips is:
1. Galapagos islands/ Machu pichu combo trip
2. African photo safari (would love to hear any reward possibilities with this).
3. Australia and New Zealand
4. Greece
5. Scandinavia fjords again (with wife this time)

This is just about my short list as well in no particular order. Although I am doing Vietnam, Osaka, and Seoul next year. I love almost all Asian food, so doing an annual trip to Asia seems to be a trend worth continuing.

The New Zealand/Australia trip is going to be a point killer in biz class though(3 seats). Still haven't figured out my plan of attack for that and it's probably my next big trip.

Thanks for the recs. I was asking more about should we stay in Tahiti for a day and a half or would you not? Go to Moorea instead or that gets to be too much with also going to Bora?
That's tough considering you're coming from Hawaii. I'd normally say sure, why not. They have some good hiking, Polynesian markets and a waterfall worth checking out. You can take the local bus or rent a car and get around the island. I like to check out local life/local bars/restaurants etc when I travel and Tahiti is the best place to get that in FP. Bora Bora is all about the tourist and the resorts.

You could do AA miles at 130,000 round trip business. If you are working with two SSN, you could get a business and personal AA card to cover 100,000 of the points. Could also do a citi prestige (especially if you can get the targeted 100,000 offer), and book through their site to cover the majority of the flight. I know virgin flies there as well (fuel charges though), and united has an option.

Unfortunately Qantas is the One World partner servicing Australia and offers virtually zero premium award seats except for the week of. That ain't gonna fly.

Yep. The fuel charges are a joke.

This is probably going to be my go to. 140k RT or 420k United miles and $25 in taxes/fuel.

Using two free Chase Hyatt nights at the new Park Hyatt in NYC later in the year and paid for the other night with 30k UR points. Rooms are $1k/night. That's crazy talk.

Did you book those two free Hyatt nights online or did you have to call? I just received my two free nights for signup bonus but nothing shows up as available online and it tells me to call. I am trying to book that same hotel for mid July. I checked all hyatts in new York and none seem to be available to book online. I am hoping it's just not bookable online. I haven't had time to call yet.

You can book online.

To find the certificates (once issued):

Log in to your Hyatt Gold Passport account
Click on “Account Detail”
Select “MY AWARDS” on the left side of the page

I had issues booking the two nights consecutively online and I had read others had the same issue. Called the gold passport line and it was no problem.

OK. Thanks. Every hotel I checked didn't have any availability in New York city for the dates I checked in July. Must be very limited supply or high demand.

That storm yesterday is putting a real damper on my CC game. Closed the refi yesterday and can't do any applications because I live in the part of uptown still without power.

I refuse to do an app on my cell phone

That's actually what I did. There are none here or close to relatives, so I just decided to buy one. I'll make up the cost in less than a month.
