Since we are getting to that time of year, I thought it might be a good idea to see what some other money boarders get their kids/nieces/nephews/grandkids for Christmas that are money related.

I usually put a certified Silver Eagle in my kids stockings, but I am looking for other ideas. Stuff that would get them interested in money.

Roman coins are fairy inexpensive but are cool as hell.

Interesting topic. A couple of years ago I got my kids each a share of Disney stock. It came with a nice framed certificate.

I've also given them piggy banks. At 6 and 3, the 6 year old is starting to learn about money more (she does chores for allowance money, etc) and the 3 year old we are just trying to get her introduced to the concept of working for money in order to use that money to buy stuff.

I've also bought them a couple of books about money.

I have a friend of mine that puts a $2 bill in each of his kids stockings each year.

I have savings accounts set up for my kids (ages 5 and 10) and the credit union gave them piggy banks. They get quite a bit of money from either birthdays or Christmas, so I make them put 15% in their accounts, since that is what my wife and I save for retirement. I enjoy it so much taking them to the bank to make their deposits and showing them their slips and how their balance is growing, but they don't seem to enjoy it yet anyways.

I like the $2 bill idea. I have about $200 worth, most of which are in sequential order, but they are put up. I like showing them odd money, stuff like Susan B. Anthony dollars, gold presidential dollars, stuff like that.

A few shares of stock in a company the kids recognize, or one whose products they use/know....then you can have fun all year long watching it go up (or down), learning about p/e ratio, etc. A decent kids book on investing to go with it? If such a thing exists. I would have loved this as a kid.
