For someone looking to use the points to travel overseas and other vacations. Which one would be the best?

Would probably put 15-20k a year on the card as I would get my Netflix, Charter, Cellphone, Car Insurance, etc on the card and try to pay it off monthly.

I wouldn't advise using any credit cards.

If you want a quick $400 Venture is nice, but don't keep it past year 1, and even better for your credit report hits just abuse Barclay Arrival+ first.

CSP would be better for continued spend but we open a can of worms discussing that.

Just saw an offer yesterday for CSP- 50,000 pts after spending $4k in 3 months. I took them up on their offer. And if you use it to book travel, pts are worth 1.25- so it's $500 cash or $625 in travel.

Points are worth more than that if you strategically transfer them to the participating partners

Why do you say this? B/c of the annual fee?

Yes. The Venture card is a 2% cash back card once you get through all their marketing gimmicks calling their points "miles." There are a few 2% cash back cards out there with no annual fee, so why pay $59 or whatever it is now for the privilege of 2% cash back when you don't have to?

Therefore, take the free money and move on.

Minimal penalty to cancel the card? I guess the Barclay arrival card is the exact same?

Besides temporary small changes in credit score? Nothing.

Opened a CSP recently, we usually spend $2,500/month or so on credit cards so the $4,000 in first 3 months should be nothing. The 50,000 point bonus seems legit, plus restaurants earn 2x points so i think we'll keep it for a while even after the annual fee kicks in.

We have about 100,000 Southwest points, plan on using those on a trip this fall and either using the CSP 50,000 points on hotel or transferring 1:1 to SW. Are there other partners where the 50,000 gets better bang for the buck?

Nice. I've never had the chase ultimate rewards so i'm interested to see the options. We just use SW a lot so we have a good bit of points there already.

Ya, if you want to do something cool so your wife can make her friends jealous on facebook, fly her in business class to Asia.

Haha I don't want to set myself up for coming up short on future trips. Maybe ease into that in a few years.

How many points is that RT for business?

I pursued it with United which is 160k RT per person. Other carriers have different requirements of course. Funny enough I happened to book when they had a discount so got it for 300k total instead of 320k. Pretty much depleted UR and left 20k in my United account as of Feb 1 2015. Since then, using signup bonuses and spending, I have 80,000 United miles, my wife has 36,000, and we have 145,000 UR. *Not counting miles I have in other places like 190k with American.

MSY-LAX-ICN-BKK

HKT-BKK-PVG(went into Shanghai for the day)-ORD-MSY

Worth every point when you're on a plane for 20 something hours.

You can transfer the points 1:1 to a good number of different programs. If you see a flight/room on one of those programs you are interested in, and see that the point value per dollar is more than 1.25 cents per point, then you are better off doing that than through the Chase booking portal
