Car for 12k?

I'm in need of a new vehicle.
I've got $12,000 and a baby on the way.
I'm currently looking at 05-08 Toyota 4Runners with ~130,000 miles on it. I'm primarily interested in SUVs & Trucks.
Considering the facts, what advice/suggestions does the MT board have for vehicles in this price range?
Muchas gracias.

I assume you want to pay cash?
I bought a 2016 Toyota Camry with just under 30K miles on Friday for about 14K sales price, all out the door it was around 16K.

I personally wouldn't spend all my cash on a car with 130k miles, but maybe you have a higher risk tolerance.

That's correct. I'm paying cash. I'm a little on the big side (6'3, 235) and I travel enough that comfort/cab size is important to me. That and safety for the oncoming baby are the reasons I'd like an SUV or truck.
My wife has a Camry and we love it, but I'm interested in something bigger. My main concern is getting 5-7 years out of it.

It's not all my cash. It's all the cash I want to spend on a vehicle.

Acura MDX of similar year and mileage should be in that range as well.
If your plan is a high mileage 10 year old car/SUV, only spend $10K and save the $2k for repairs down the road (even with a Toyota). You'll thank me later.

Almost any SUV and truck in that range will have over 100,000 miles. I would try to look at the more under-valued models such as the non-crew cab versions of the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, or Nissan Frontier.

I sold an '07 Yukon SLT 4x4 for just a hair more than that last year. It only had 130,000 miles and plenty of life left.
Get on your local Craigslist, sort through the bullshite, and call with a reasonable low-ball. Craigslist prices are insanely optimistic in my area - essentially pawn shop levels of profit margin. When I sell cars there, most "potential buyers" are idiots asking me to finance - getting an 80% offer is great news. The bigger the market the better you can do. Cash is king. $12k should be plenty to get 5-7 years out of a vehicle.
Buy this Land Cruiser
Or this Land Cruiser I called on this one - 201,000 miles. Still looks to have plenty more to go. Seller is a mechanic/dealer selling his FIL's rig.

You should be able to find a solid pilot or highlander in that range as well. Both awesome family cars.

Its not hard at all to find an 05-08 Pilot or Highlander with 130K ish miles for 12K...they're quite literally all over the place.

Not wrong. In Baton Rouge there's a 2010 Highlander for $10k right now on Cargurus. 108k miles. Nothing for a Highlander.

Not to mention that he has a baby on the way. What absolute horrid advice

How many kids do you plan to have?
More than 3, get a Suburban, less, get a Tahoe.
Z71, or Yukon/Yukon XL if you want to save money/get a slightly newer model.
I paid 6500 for an 04 Z71 with 145 miles so you should definitely be able to get something newer or with much less miles.

Just bought my 18 yr old a 2015 Honda Fit with 17k miles on it for 13K. It's pretty roomy for a small car. Also has a hatchback. Get 36-42 MPG.

Interested in a 2010 GMC Sierra Ext Cab with 145000 miles? Been contemplating selling instead of trading in.
