Just left the ford dealership (lafayette area), and I was trying to use a price from a dealership in Texas as leverage. The salesman here was giving me a line about the rebates being regional plus I can't get both the rebate and the 0% financing on the truck, so if I took the 0% financing then he couldn't back off of the price at all.

What say the money board. How full of shite is this guy?

Background:

Truck is a 2013 F150 platinum. Sticker = $53k, his price was $49k

I came back at him with $43k and showed him the truck in Houston. Price of same truck in Houston area is $41k, including about $5k in rebates (which he said were region specific, and since I live in Louisiana, I wouldn't qualify for them).

For that difference negotiate over phone/email then drive to Texas to pick up the truck

Ford Truck Incentives

change the zip code at the top to see the different region's incentives.

your best bet will probably be to drive to Houston to pick one up

I would expect 10k minimum off sticker on a platinum

49 is ridiculous

I bought a 13 king ranch in Baton Rouge in February for 11k off

He is full of shite. I did the exact same thing. Same truck. Got a price emailed to me from Houston. Went to don Bonn and told them to beat it. 2013 F-150 platinum loaded. Everything you can get on one. Wound up paying $42K. This was in Dec 2012 so that might have had something to do with end of the year sales.

Forget about the 0%, take the money instead, Finance through ford credit at whatever rate they give you, make the mandatory first three payments, then refi trough penfed for 1.74%

I've heard this a few times here. Penfed is a credit union?

I see there are eligibility requirements, and basically I just have to pay a small due to another org. to join since I don't meet their other requirements.

Anyone have experience doing this?

my quote from Houston (mak Haick I believe) was 42,500. That included 1500 rebate for ford financing (not 0%). They beat it by 500. 3 months mandatory payment to ford is BS. I paid the loan value off 2 weeks after purchase and received an overpayment check for the two weeks interest I didn't accrue in the first month from ford.

Yep. If I remember right it was a $5 donation. I didn't refi a car at penfed, but all of their rates are great.

It's like 20 bucks to join penfed and well worth it

3 payments to ford credit aren't really required though the dealer may lie and say it is

I refi'd with penfed before making a payment to ford, they didn't penalize in any way

Can't believe he let you walk off the lot..Must have not need to fill his quota for the month. If you can hold out til Aug/sept when the 2014 show up, you will fine a lot easier time negotiating for 2013.

He is correct that you can only get the rebates or 0% financing. And he is 99% correct on rebates being regional although some rebates are nationwide at times. Youll get a better deal by taking the rebates and financing through a credit union for 2% or less.

To get an accurate idea of what some are going for there are 25 2013 Platinums on ebay with a buy it now of 41k to 48k. Typically this will depend on where the vehicle is located, what type of volume the dealership typically does, and also the color combination. Certain colors are able to get a higher value since they are more popular and others are the total opposite in that they are really hard to get sold.

In regards to comparing the truck in houston to the one in laf, are you 100% sure they are exactly the same? Certain features on a vehicle arent available unless a certain package is added thus adding to the vehicles price. And it sucks because alot of times its things you dont want or need.

Been negotiating for the same truck for the past three days.

4 different dealers have come off 8-10k from BR to Nola to new roads.

Go somewhere else

The most you will get on your trade is the loan value. If you want to get more for your trade then you need to try and sell it on your own. Only way they give more is if its a vehicle that will sell quickly, is also a ford in great condition, or they have enough profit in the new vehicle to give a little more than loan value.
