That would be a pretty funny lecture since year old trucks sell for just as much as new ones.

Yep. Been looking hard and it just seems to make sense to buy a new one these days. Sucks.

Yeah, I studied the market for about 6 months before I bought a new Silverado. I began looking at used ones bc I assumed they would be much cheaper. But after promotions, incentives, and warranties, I ended up going with a new one for just about the same price as a 2 year old model with 30k on it.

4. Any negotiating tips are welcomed. I looked at the true car price and it matches my employer discount price

Don't let them know upfront you have supplier pricing, there is no negotiating in these programs, make sure you also get any rebates on top of your supplier pricing. Haggle without them knowing this sometimes you will get a better deal, go at the end of the month, wait until July, August, September these are the model year changes for the big 3 and previous model years start getting incentives.

Nobody on here is telling you what to do, several people are giving advice based on mistakes they have made or have seen others make. Ultimately the best decision is an informed decision. If someone on here makes you think of something you otherwise would not have considered, then you will be better off for it. Only you know your goals and if having a nice vehicle is important after considering how it affects your other goals, then go get it.

I personally want to retire early and therefore have never driven a nice vehicle. If you spend an extra $10k today, then ultimately you will have to work more or longer in your life to make up for that. $10k saved today is worth $50k in 30 years, so that money could easily add another year to how long I have to work. It is a balancing act that everyone walks, know your goals and adjust your life accordingly.

Except Ford hasn't started rolling out the 2016s yet for the F150. All I've seen is that's supposed to happen sometime in the 4th Q. Anyone have any insight on exactly when? I'm in the market for a new F150 but am waiting on the 2016s to hopefully get a better deal on the 2015s.

I'm debating between an XLT with the 302a package or a Lariat with the 501a package. Probabaly about $5-6k difference. Plan on driving it for at least 10 years.

The truck I am looking to purchase is going to be somewhere between $45k-$50k.

In todays market if you want a nice 4x4 truck the price range is 40-60 depending on brand. Not many options given.

If it's an option, find one that's 1 or 2 years old with very few miles

You'll save 15+ thousand and it will still be a new truck.

Otherwise fiancé the whole thing, interest rates are almost nothing now. Then buy oil and gas stock with that cash. In 5-7 years you'll pay cash for your next truck

What one person calls a mistake can be another person's enjoyment. Just because you don't care about the vehicle you drive doesn't mean OP (or any other person doesn't as well).

Case in point, when I graduated college, I wanted to get a brand new truck. Instead of just doing what I wanted from the get go, I compromised and bought a nice, but older vehicle. Long story short, I hated it, got rid of it 3 months later at a pretty sizable loss, and bought what I actually wanted. My mistake was not just buying what I wanted the first time. It's a mistake I won't make again, because all it did was cost me more money.

But not everyone feels like I do, maybe OP does.

Have you actually priced out 1 year old trucks compared to new trucks? Don't answer, because you clearly haven't.

Get the Lariat. You can find 2015 SuperCrews with 501a as cheap as $35k (maybe less) if 2wd.

It's funny how people just repeat things they've heard all their life without actually checking it out themselves.

Well those years haven't been in the 2010s apparently. You could have read any number of posts in this thread to know that your information wasn't correct before posting it. And honestly, it probably wasn't correct whenever you claim to have done it. Trucks have never depreciated by half after one year with low miles.

Not when the incentives are $10K+. My truck had a sticker price of $50,495 (give or take), I got $10k off for a new 2013 with 10 miles on it, or I could have paid $38-39K for a used 2013 with 10-20K miles on it. Saving $2-3k wasn't worth it for me.

incentives are better on new, rates are better on new. Buy this said to be 1 yr old truck is not very cost effective these days

Trucks didn't cost $50k back in the day.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Lariat. And yes, I'm looking at crew cab short bed RWD. The MSRP of what I want is about $46k.

Based on Mac Haik's website I should be able to get about $9500 off on the Lariat and about $10500 - $11000 off a XLT. Plan to use these prices as a reference when negotiating so that I know what price to target.
