If you're getting a good deal out of state, go for it. But, other than that, you really won't save much and if anything, it can be a headache to get the car registered in your state. Make sure the dealer knows before hand that you plan to register the car in your home state.

So as long as I am getting the better deal... That should be my only concern?

Not sure the states involved, but there might be some extra paperwork and issues for getting the car across border and having it registered in your home state. It's important that the dealership you're buying the car from helps you with out-of-state registration and DMV work.

Concerns otherwise? Not really. It's quite common actually where people buy out of state. I've done it twice and it wasn't a big deal.

It's also a good idea to look into the requirements on your state DMV site on how to bring the new car back into the state. There might be some issues with registration/tax credit n stuff...

I bought mine in TX bc it was $5500 cheaper.

Only issue was that my bank didn't exist in Dallas so I had to pay cash, then when I brought the car back to LA the bank loaned me the money back and I transferred the title again.

Just curious. How much did the cost you? I've heard it can be costly.

My credit union did it as a courtesy since it wasn't a normal transaction. I paid for it the first time $50

I'm a Louisiana resident and bought my last vehicle in Houston because it saved thousands of $$. Dealer sent me the paper work and I paid T/T/Lic fees in LA several weeks later. There were no extra fees buying in TX. There was no financing, I just wrote them a check from my bank in LA.
Also, they put a temporary TX Lic Plate on it and I never had a problem.

I like to buy local .. which means between Houston and Atlanta.

Find the car you want (model, color). Then just email the dealers within 500 miles of you. They'll try to find it, then price it very low because the only thing they have invested is a little internet time.

My last purchase one dealer found 'on the boat' coming into Port Houston. Another dealer beat his price ... the same exact vehicle 'on the boat'.
