Avoiding / Reducing Capitol Gains Tax

In particular from the sales of investment properties.

Any advice? Based on my reading the 1021 Tax Deferred Exchange is not an option for me.

What are your other sources of income? If you can get your tax rate down to the 15% bracket, then then long-term capital gain rate is 0%.

I have a Roth 401k I plan on maxing out with my employer. I also plan on opening my wife a Roth with Vanguard and maxing it.
