Just saw that and had to go to make sure it wasn't fake. Huge deal.

Industry changing play.

Does Verizon respond? I don't even know who they could go after to match T-Mobile...Sprint, Cellular South?

Verizon is interesting to me because of a high dividend % payout but cautious because of an extremely high PE. I have thought about picking up a little as a dividend play, but this news tells me to stay on the sideline and watch.

Sprint is the only other large CDMA carrier out there, but I don't believe Sprint has any plans (from what I have read) to be bought out by anyone.

This is all about spectrum...

Both AT&T and Verizon are trying to aquire as much as possible to meet the rising demand. I find it interesting how fast the telecommunication industry has consolidated. Any chance this merger gets blocked by regulators?

Little chance since there are still other providers. It'd be like Jacobs buying out all the local firms in BR except for Shaw.

Great for AT&T stockholders! With iPhone going to Verizon, AT&T had to make a move or steadily lose market share over the next three years.

My understanding is that T-Mobile actually has the largest network of any of the major carriers. This will give AT&T the network service to compete with Verizon and the ability to hold their market share.

AT&T and TMobile were both aiming for "4G" with HSDPA+, so them buying their network makes sense, but it's not the greatest technology. 7.2 Mbps is the advertised speed and some of Verizon's new LTE phones are showing real world test results of 10 - 11 Mbps.

If they bring back C.Z. Jones, I'm all for it. She gives me hardening of the artery.

Verizon buys them out by next week IMO

Although, Sprint being sold to Verizon strengthens AT&T and T-Mobile deal. I think Sprint may be a buy later this week?

This whole thing is getting very close to a monopoly. The more I think about it, the more I think it might get the axe. Lookout for rate increases.

Verizon buying Sprint would be about as successful as Sprint buying Nextel.

They are essentially asking for their legalized monopoly back, which was broken up in 1984.

Not disagreeing, just saying it's probably going to happen. Look at it this way, the phone companies are now to big to fail?
