How do you get noticed by them? Is it worth contacting them if you're interested in something their company is offering/they are aware of an opportunity you may be unaware of?
From a Linkedin standpoint point they filter by keywords on your profile or skills. Also if you've ever published any articles that helps. Otherwise I'd email everyone I wanted to work with and try to schedule a call to discuss your qualifications. Most are willing to do so as they need a pipeline of people to reach out to at all times.

Yep. Get a LinkedIn profile and spend some time on making it good. Then go through the process and spend the time talking to any LEGIT recruiters who contact you. They may not have something for you at *this* exact time, but those guys and gals maintain a pipeline and you just want o be in as many real recruiters' pipelines as possible. And don't get discouraged, you'll enter the process on several jobs that get filled internally or "go another direction'. Keep plowing ahead; it's a numbers game.
