Anyone ever made a rental car insurance claim through your credit card benefits?

I rented a car a couple of months ago that apparently came back with a scratch on the back bumper that the company has now filed a claim with my car insurance over. Car insurance called and told me just now that they dont cover it. I have the Citi Premier American Airlines card, and one of the listed benefits is Worldwide Rental Car Rental insurance. I have not heard back from the rental car company yet, but I am assuming this is just a mater of time. Has anyone ever made a claim through a credit card like this?

My first question would be did you actually use the credit card in question to rent the vehicle?

Your own insurance normally covers a rental car as a temporary replacement vehicle and is primary. The insurance from your credit card is secondary and would not normally pay unless you don't have a personal vehicle or you don't carry collision insurance on it.

Yes, I always use that card for the rental for that reason.

Did you not do a walk around the car with the return person and get a release from them?
Why are you finding out about this month's later?

I would fight it with your insurance company unless they can prove you did the damage, if it wasn't noted at the time of return then how do they know you did it.

Call Citi now. You have a limited amount of time to make the claim.

I believe the new chase sapphire reserve offers primary insurance. I'd be interested in hearing user experiences with that.

Did the company close out your rental agreement before notifying you of the damage? If so, tell them to kick rocks…

Please keep us updated OP. Whenever I turn a car in without it being inspected by the agency, i do a quick video around the car or snap some pictures.
I'm curious if you think the damage was legitimately you OP? I'm pretty sure the credit card insurance has high deductibles? I wanna say like $1000-2000? But may be wrong. How much damage are they saying here? I'd almost think a small scratch they may just charge you something like $500 for depreciation of the damage and not hassle with fixing the car?

Some credit cards (CSR and Marriot for example) offer primary insurance for rentals.

I'm also curious why your car insurance would not cover it? Is it under the deductible? Frankly this may be an issue between your insurance and the rental agency, I'm not sure why your insurance is making you deal with it?

Sorry to keep posting threads, but the first time I rented a car in Europe I did a decent bit of research on this because not paying for insurance in foreign countries saves you almost 50% on your rental price and your USA car insurance does not cover outside the states.
From what I gathered, the credit card deductibles are high. But often times if you just get a small ding or something then the rental car companies just charge you for their depreciation. They aren't getting small things fixed as they'd lose more income in the shop than what'd they'd make renting it plus the hassle of getting it repaired. My understanding is they rarely get any cars fixed, they just sell anything that can not be rented any longer as that's cheaper/ easier for them?
My point is, the OP can probably just settle with them for a couple $100s.

He shouldn't have to settle. Once the rental agency closes out his agreement upon return of the car and does not note any damages they have released the customer of liability.
Which is why I told him if this is the case to tell the rental company they have no leg to stand on.
