MO price plummeted after the gubment announced future restrictions on nicotine, which would limit addictiveness.

Good time to buy MO, or run for the hills?

It sucks but this is more of a political question than anything. Do you think the recent growth in the conservative/less regulation mindset is going to continue to the point the government gets out of the tobacco regulation world?

The younger generations are smoking and consuming tobacco even less than previous generations.

That is hard to say. Is anyone cornering the markets in Washington and Colorado? I would assume with something like this there would be so many people who can grow it that it wouldn't likely get cornered.

I would assume they will make the transition; however, GENZ isn't into pot either. It's definitely worth a look, but too risky for me as a long term play.

I'm also leery on the future of legalized weed.

There are other markets besides america for tobacco. Pretty much everybody everywhere else in the world chain smokes.

Bingo, I'm long PM just for this reason. It's a conservative bet to get exposure to marijuana.

This. American tobacco is still in high demand. Just not in America. China alone has made up for everyone quitting in America. Much less the developing markets in the rest of Asia and Africa. We're a long ways from tobacco not being a good bet.

Some are, the older range of GenZ is in high school and their answers to the same surveys show a much lower interest in smoking, drinking, and drugs. However, they are more tolerant of those that do use it.

correct, but MO is Philip Morris USA, and has I believe 100% domestic exposure.

PM is everywhere besides USA, and already a holding of mine, because, as mentioned, the rest of the world chain smokes.

this thread is specific to MO, as the stock recently took a dive. PM is near an all time high.

You're an idiot if you think the largest tobacco company is not prepared for an alternative market with marijuana to become legalized.

Just as in big oil and variable sources of energy, Chevron an Exxon may not be producing electric or nuclear powered cars but they damn sure have something in their back pocket.
