Trying to book a trip in June at planet hollywood. Resort fee is $25 per night. Most of the hotels on the strip are doing this.

vegas has gotten out of hand

it use to be the place for cheap deals and they wanted u to spend your money there

now its gotten high end on the strip at least. I go 2-3 times per year and my last trip i swear every meal was $15-20 an item, im talking breakfast, burger, sandwich, etc. dinner places are all basically $50+

I've seen it in other cities as well

I don't know why they separate it out. Seems like a way to make people think you are nickel and diming them

They dropped the resort fee back from 2009-2011.

Planet Hollywood started charging it again sometime in 2011-2012, but waived it for platinum members or higher. Last year, they started charging it to platinum members while raising it to $25 a night from $20.

Flights have gone up and room rates at all properties. The Wynn used to offer me 3 free nights a year in a promotion. Haven't gotten that offer in the past two years.

Just the way it goes. Economy is doing well, Vegas is busy, supply demand.

Obtain marker line, which is just a function of average daily balance in checking account. Draw out marker line and make the first several bets large when the pit boss is there to note average bet per roll, or hand, or whatever. Tip dealers at least something. Pay back marker line every day. Repeat. No resort fee. No room charges. Sometimes free food. Do not eat at uppity strip places. Eat at Hugo's Cellar or The Steakhouse at Circus Circus. Better food, better service, lower price. Purchase show tickets from Tix4Tonight, pay $3 more and get 25% of off meals at some better places.

They wrecked that town, but if you know how to work it, and prefer substance over style, you can still have Old Vegas.

I haven;t and won't pay for rooms in LV, and I have no idea why anyone who gambles at least moderately does.

Won't work for weekend like the Pacquiao Mayweather fight, but even then your rooms will be deeply discounted.

a lot of the third party booking sites sort by rate (and resort fees dont count as rate).

also a lot of people dont pay attention and get stuck with it.

Yeah, I know how to work it pretty well and am higher rated than I probably should be.

I will say the pit bosses at PH and the Wynn (where I usually play) pay attention well and know that trick of varying bet size when they are watching. I've noticed them a lot more on top of it and adjusting my avg bet fast. Also at cesars. Paris seems more lax along with ballys.

I name those as I try and keep all my action within the cesars properties as they give me the best comps. I'll usually stay at PH from Thurs-Monday and get at least 3 nights comped.

I like the way you think. Where do you eat when you're there? Curious.

Probably for the government travelers...roll it into the room rate and it goes over the allowable rate, break it out and it gets counted as taxes/fees. I know Vegas used to be quite popular for government functions. I assume it still is.

I'm usually low maintenance on where I eat and don't make it a big event. When I'm there, I'll gamble, go to pool parties, clubs, and bar hop at some of the casino bars I like.

So, if I stay at PH, I'll eat at Earl's, Yolos, PF Changs, and the spice market buffet most of the time. If I'm at the Wynn I eat at that restaurant beside the sports bar a lot. Sometimes just order room service or a papa Johns pizza there too. I like the food options best at PH though. Lot of them that are all right there and I usually eat at all hours of the day or night depending on if I'm up all night, or whatever.

Exactly. I know they are trying to maximize revenue but the way to go about it and sneakily put these fees in are just pissing off potential good, loyal customers. I guess vegas don't care since they have unlimited supply of people going there each year.

Yeah, they dont care and pretty much all of them do it.

Kinda like all the bars and clubs in Miami add an automatic 18% gratuity to every order and never say anything so people end up double tipping by mistake.

Yep, hotels and resorts have all sorts of stuff like this they hit you for. Valet parking at many of the hotels in downtown NOLA is upwards of $50/night. Sandestin charges a resort fee % on top of any purchases made at Baytowne Wharf.

to be fair, having a parking lot downtown in any city is pretty expensive (and also contracted through outside companies). the alternative there is raising everyones rates, regardless of car. id rather that be an optional fee than built in.

resort fees are just gaming the system. whole different beast.

Just looked at the rates for the Wynn and their resort fee is $32. Pretty sure it was 25 a night when I stayed there last summer. And their damn rates are through the roof this weekend. 500-600+ for a basic room this weekend. I can get 250 based on my play there from last summer, but no thanks.

Vegas must be getting off to a good start this summer.

Yep. Not this weekend but next is the official start, but the big ones have headliners this weekend. Encore and MGM have tiesto, calvin harris, and kaskade this weekend among others.

I just booked a flight today actually. Have to decide where to stay tomorrow. If it's the wynn, I'm gonna have to have a lot of action to get rooms comped. They are really high this weekend.

I work in the hospitality business and there has been a recent migration for Vegas resorts to be run by hotel people as opposed to Casino people. Orlando has been doing this for years and tagging this "fee" as a component of REVpar which is how many hotel managers are compensated. If I were going to guess, if this is a recent change, I'd say that this fee has more to do with the management comp structure and change in talent at the top. If it has been going on for a while, then it's probably the ability to list prices lower on OTAs.

Think you are correct.

For years, I could call cesars group and get connected to the casino host I use to book my room which he always comps almost every night completely.

I tried last night and tonight and they wouldn't connect me. Finally said they don't do that anymore and they were VIP services. Laughable. I can get better rates with my players number online, 200 for Thursday-Tuesday total, 40 a night.

I'm pissed now though. Booking at the Wynn for $250 for a single night and see how they treat me with comps the next four nights. Willing to give them a shot now cause I'm pissed at them changing the rules on me at cesars.
