Supposedly for security measures. You have to go to their website and answer some questions to verify your ID, mostly about addresses, phone numbers, and people you are associated with or have been associated with. I went to the site, answered the questions, and it told me they were wrong. I had one more chance, and it said those were wrong too. Now I have to send copies of my federal return, my 1099's etc.

6-8 weeks later they'll still be jacking you around. Congrats!

Is this possibly some kind of scam? What is the purpose of verifying your ID?

Seriously curious.

Apparently people are intercepting refunds and this is an attempt to prevent that. It's the legit dept of revenue site. I have no problem with the concept, it's just that the implementation is screwed up. I don't even have a refund coming, I owed money, which I had already paid weeks ago.

Fwiw, people filing false returns is a huge problem in Louisiana.

Lexis Nexus has a contract with DOR. They receive a contingency fee for each fraudulent refund they prevent from being paid.

I wouldn't know anything about any of that.
