Any advice for buying stuff from Alibaba.com?

Looking to buy some raw materials that are much cheaper overseas. However I'm a little leery of using this site simply because some of the information isn't clear (sizing, qty, etc). Anyone have advice or experience using Alibaba.com to source products?

I've purchased a few items.
You have to send inquiries to several sellers and then start from there. It usually takes a few samples (if you're buying apparel) to get everything sized correctly.
Work with the higher rated sellers, too.
