Another car trade-in question

My current vehicle is worth $15,000 trade-in. If I trade it in for a truck that costs only $12,000 do I receive a check for the difference? How does that work?
Before you ask, I realized I would be trading down in vehicle but the truck in question is one that I've wanted for quite some time now.

Yes assuming you don't owe more than 15k on your current vehicle.
