Jim Cramer says kiss goodbye to inflation of food prices in grocery stores and this move is great for America. He's going crazy saying how he needs a special edition Saturday show tomorrow.

Jahn Mackey is mad...

quote:

“Yes, we need to evolve,” he says. “We need to get better, and we’re doing that. But these guys just want to sell us, because they think they can make forty or fifty percent in a short period of time. They’re greedy bastards, and they’re putting a bunch of propaganda out there, trying to destroy my reputation and the reputation of Whole Foods, because it’s in their self-interest to do so.”

Would buying WFM be a good play or no?

Now we know what triggered his outrage. Granola cluster just met Whey Protein.

It's not trading right now. Locked up. Will skyrocket to arbitrage the price difference once it opens

I think it's a great move. There will always be some need for some brick-and-mortar. Amazon can marry it's technology to whole foods, where it already has a lot of customer overlap, and can provide incredible efficiency in the retail grocery industry. Kramer was just saying that they might buy Sears on CNBC. I think he was joking, but that actually might be a great idea as well.

Might take a look at others in that sector as CNBC is reporting

I'm curious how much impact the explosion of companies like Blue Apron, HelloFresh, etc. had on how quick this move was made...

This is going to be fantastic for the American consumer.

This sums it up nicely...

@dkberman.....Amazon did not just buy Whole Foods grocery stores. It bought 431 upper-income, prime-location distribution nodes for everything it does.

Every other grocer is dropping. Kroger down 13% after shedding 20% yesterday. Crazy times.

Juice, I was thinking the same thing. Used Hello Fresh for 4-5 weeks. Like the fresh choices in controlled portions

This is as much about the distribution opportunities. Amazon Prime Now just got a massive shot in the arm.

bingo. the street always gets these things wrong.

first it's a tacit admission by amazon that to be a player in the grocery space you've got to go bricks and mortar.

second whole foods is a niche retailer annual sales of 15 billion versus 115 billion for kroger versus 244 billion for walmart and that's just grocery sales. sort of defeats the whole amazon takes over the grocery business narrative now doesn't it? if they were buying albertson's 53 billion in annual sales which would also buy themselves safeway well i might buy that narrative.

third what's the one big knock on amazon? their margins are too low. so naturally they go into a business that is notorious for their low margins.
