"McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
LINK

quote:

Lanny Davis: McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States

Mark Finkelstein

When you're a Clintonite, you're a Clintonite all the way. From your first Monicagate defense, To Hil's last primary day.
— with apologies to Leonard Bernstein

[Actually, Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics]

Look next to the definition of "Clinton loyalist" in the dictionary, and you're likely to find a photo of Lanny Davis. The man who would have put Baghdad Bob to shame for his unflinching flackery during Bill's Monica mess is back on the beat for Hillary. Yesterday, Davis wrote a HuffPo column purporting to set forth 10 Undisputed Facts showing Obama's weakness as a general election candidate against John Mccain. As Jake Tapper has observed, some of those "facts" are "both disputed and not facts," including the risible notion that Hillary didn't run any negative ads. Guess the commercial featuring Osama Bin Laden slipped Lanny's mind.

Lanny was back on the job on today's Morning Joe. After repeating his claim from the HuffPo column that Obama is in a dead heat with McCain in super-blue in Massachusetts while Hillary's up by 15%, Davis took his anti-Obama argument a giant step further. Davis claimed that Barack could lose in a blow-out of epic, McGovernesque, proportions.

I listened to Lanny Davis being interviewed on Fox yesterday afternoon. He appears to be completely divorced from reality. Loyalty is an admirable character trait but not when coupled with self inflicted delusion.

Lanny Davis might just be the ultimate Clinton kool-aid drinker. He does have somewhat of an argument on this though. However, he wouldn't lose 49 states. He would definitely lose Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio against McCain.

Obama should win his home state of Illinois, and perhaps a handful of others in New England -- and of course he'll win Wash DC.

Otherwise it's going to be a massacre.

He would likely also win California, Oregon, and Washington. But, he would lose every state between California and Illinois.

Nah. That depends on who his running mate is. With Richardson, He'll win New Mexico. In the worst case scenario, he wins Colorado and Iowa and loses all the other states west of the Pacific rim and east of the Mississippi. In reality, I could see him winning the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Louisiana too.

Please show some justification for this thinking. Otherwise, you are delusional. Have you really looked at the changing demographics of La. You do realize that Jindal the state has bucked the trend and turned more Republican and more Conservative?

With all of the attacks on each other, they may have burned that bridge enough for no one to believe them. It would have been a winning ticket 3 months ago. But instead of being smart about it, they have shot bullets at each other to the point that no one would believe that they are a legit team.

Louisiana has the second largest black population in the US.

You may want to review that.

re: "McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
And? My point is still that the black population will be high enough to swing the state for Obama. Even if 60% of the whites vote McCain, Obama will win the state.

re: "McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
Now I know why Mississippi still lacks in education.

You can't figure out that a loss of 100,000.00 in population in a voting base that has to be paid and bussed, and cheated into voting will just up and swing the whole state for Obama. You need to learn a little about voting trends, history, and review the margin by which Cleo Fields loss. He was black, so I doubt he lost much of the "Black" vote.

Obam if he is their candidate gets no more than 40% the Blacks and the crazy liberals, when you nominate the extreme you lose by extreme margins.

Our Governor's race has been a model for this for years.

You need to learn a little history before Obama "changes it to be the change you wanted it to be changed to".

Really? I've never gone to school a day in Mississippi!

The overall electorate doesn't hate Obama as much as you would infer from reading the TD.com Poli board.

Barack Obama is not Cleo Fields. I lived in Louisiana during the Fields/Foster election. My mom voted for Fields, and my dad voted for Foster.

Fields ran as a black candidate, Obama is trying as hard as he can not to be the black candidate. In the end, I think this important distinction will allow Obama to pull a little more of the general electorate. That, and there wasn't a perceived abomination named George Bush to push votes away from the Republican Party.

re: "McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
That is why he will lose. You who are voting for Obama have made it about race. I already assume he gets the Black vote, but his truly liberal positions will turn off the rest of the voters.

Please stay in Miss. Do not return, we don't need your type of racism around here.

re: "McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
I'm just statistically analyzing past trends. If a statistician ignored the significance of race in this election, he would lose his job.

Regardless of race, most major polls have Obama in a dead heat with McCain nationally. I'm pointing out that Louisiana has a large population of a demographic that will overwhelmingly vote in Obama's favor, therefore tipping the state to him.

So you don't want "my type of racism"? Is that the "type of racism" that fair-mindedly analyzes trends? Would you prefer the lynching type of racism, or the "kill whitey" type of racism?

re: "McGovernesque Obama On Track to Lose 49 States"
I cited the trends for you. Louisiana will vote for McCain by a double digit margin.

All the "hoping" and "change" and "change we were hoping for", and the "hope we are a changing" will not "change" that. You are ignorant if you believe otherwise.

Reviewing your other posts, it seems you are young, naive, and ignorant of the state you formally lived in. Again, no matter what you want to believe, Obama will not win LA and will do as Kerry did and probably bypass the state all together. If we have such a large Black population, with your reasoning, he wouldn't have to step off the plane here.

Even if Obama does lose Louisiana, it'll be a whole lot closer than that. You really need to diversify the group of people you hang around with.

When it comes down to it, McCain supports failed Bush policies, and Obama has been against the war in Iraq since 2002. That's enough to keep the race close in any state.
