Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
I wanna see him run from TB and the Wild Tiger...run read option...

I can't say that I think the end all-be alll of my season's satisfaction lies in a gifted multi-purpose athlete with a subpar arm throwing the football.

Is it the element of surprise? A tailback pass? A step up and then step back throw from the Wild Tiger? A screen pass from Jefferson and then hit Tolliver on a fly - WR pass?

What's the fascination with wanting him to throw? Saban must not know, eh? I wanna see him get 10 touches tomorrow but if he doesn't throw the football, I will not be one of the many calling into Songy's show talking about how stupid our coahces are.

I guess its the element of surprise. He'll have man to man on the outside if/when he throws it. I think that is favorable regardless of who's throwing it.

Keeps em honest.
keeps em off balance.
Looks awesome on Sports center.
Makes Screamy Nick, King of The Little People, yell at his assistant coaches and turn purple.
Good fun all the way around.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Because we recruited him (allegedly) as a quarterback. Just like I went to LSU to become a ______ but decided to become a _______ after I got there.

He is a FOOTBALL PLAYER at LSU. And we're gonna love him. Whether he throws it or runs it. And if he never serves as QB, so be it. Aight?

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
No, we didn't recruit him to be the next qb at LSU. We might have said we did, but he will NEVER be the starting qb at LSU. JJ has 2 years left and the only time RS would have a chance to start is as a senior. By then, Big Chris will be the man.

That's what I meant. He entered with a QB tag in the minds of most fans, and they want to see what we got for our money. And they are getting restless.

I don't care if he ever throws one. I like what I see on the ground. Plus we signed a legit QB prospect, too. All good. Les is on it.

Yeah, but he was "promised" a chance at QB. And that's where he worked when he got here. A lot of people thought he'd stay there.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
I agree geaux and honestly, I really don't care if I ever see him throw a ball for 4 years. I think he is Percy Harvin for us and he's better suited running and receiving.

Listening to talk radio in BR today was just dumb...people talking about how they think Miles is holding the offense back if he doesn't let Shep throw the ball. Then, some would call in and say that the difference in the game will be when Shep throws the ball - despite no one saying what sort of pass it'll be and the significance of it.

Saban's not an idiot and rest assured he knows that Shep will have the ability to do such.

I am hoping that he is at TB tomorrow and Saban blitzes 9 and JJ hits im on a RB wheel route or something similar and we see him look a lot like he did vs. AU,

Maybe because we haven't seen it consistently and convincingly from a LSU QB in a long time?

The kid is 18ish. And what's the goal in college? Find your stroke and get lined up for your groove. And his groove ain't QB. But to get him there? I would entertain the fantasy when I was offering him, knowing that when he got to campus, he would see it differently.

He enjoyed that first TD. Discipline kept him from overdoing it and celebrating. He knows his gamebreaking will come at TB or wideout IMHO. That's what I'm seeing. And many young people readjust their vision many times in college.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Things I would rather see that haven't been seen this year other than Shep passing:

1) RR catching a TD or having a 100 yard rec game

2) Ridley getting 10 touches

3) Holliday returning a kickoff (we're 118th in the country in yards per return )

4) D'Angelo Peterson catching a TD

5) JJ breaking a long TD run

I guess it forces defenses to respect the run and the pass. If he throws it once, they have to defend against the pass anytime he's under center.

I bet Shep would agree with you. He seems like a real teamer.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Well, let 'er rip. If he throws it, he throws it...but I am concerned of what might happen if he does. Again, I hope he does it and succeeds, but I would rather see him do what he's been doing. He's so damn quick to the edge.

In order of who should get most touches tomorrow from RB position:

1) Scott
2) Shepard
3) Ridley
4) Holliday
5) Williams

I know what you mean. I'm afraid it could backfire. RS is a great talent but I also think the fans are putting too much pressure on him.

I would almost eliminate Williams from this list. He's not an up the middle runner and he will never make the edge with Bama's LB speed. Williams as a receiver in the flats makes more sense.

re: Why are people so hard up to see Shepard throw the ball?
Yep and you know what I hate is this:

Williams showed promise in '06 that he was going to be everything he was promised. Remember 2005 and the hype? Only RP got more.

He has 5 games left and he's not about to be an all-american. He has become JV. His career is over and we never really saw what we thought we would. No 200 yard game; just flashes of brilliance post freshman year ('07 VT, '07 Auburn).

Williams not panning out has made me angry and I don't know where to point the anger to - him? coaches? To me, even though he's been a selfless Tiger and played behind Hester and Scott most of his career, KW has been a huge bust. His best games were Tennesssee, Arkansas, and Notre Dame - three years ago.

I would be surprised if he touches the ball more than once tomorrow.

People just want to see how well he can throw on this level. Certain amount of curiousity, nothing wrong with it.

I don't know who to blame either. I look at Scott who was behind both Hester and KW on the depth chart and he seems to have come around. The coaching seems to have worked for him but not KW who also happens to be one of the smartest players on this team.

I just really am a fan of a combo of Scott and Ridley being a 1-2 punch!
