Leon Pinetta - CIA Director?
How can someone with absolutely no intelligence training be named CIA Director?

This would be a horrible appointee.

When he was in the Army for a couple of years mid 60's he supposedly had an intelligence assignment at Fort Ord. Which was a convenient place for him to sit out the Viet Nam war, just a couple of miles from his home town.

This must be Obama's answer to the intelligence lapses over the years, a guy with zero qualifications to be the CIA director. We're on our way now baby.

The guy has a good record when dealing with the budget.

I can't find the link yet but Feinstein was just quoted as questioning his qualifications.

I have no problem with this at all. I personally don't want a CIA man heading the CIA. That place needs to be shaken up like nobody's business.

I don't mind it not being a CIA man but shouldn't the person have a background in intelligence? I mean the FBI and CIA are not the only way to understand how the game is played.

It doesn't bother me at all if the person has experience involving bringing a change of attitude to a complex organization. The problems the CIA has do not require an expert in intelligence so much as they require an expert in herding cats.

I'm going to disagree. If you don't understand the bureaucracy involved chances are the fixes will only create a bigger problem.

Its not like reforming the Department of Education. The CIA involves worldwide ongoing operations.

Sure, that's one way to think about it, but I genuinely like a healthy dose of outsiders to head government departments, branches, and agencies. Otherwise, you condemn yourself to a groupthink mentality over time.

I'm not saying that appointees should always be outsiders; I'm just saying that it should happen often enough to remind government agencies that they ultimately work for civilians and the elected administration, and not the other way around.

I'll agree with this. Those that work and advance outside the bureaucracy provide a healthy new outlook to the problems created because of the beauracracy.

But with that should be certain qualifications that pertain to the position. I don't see Pinetta having those qualifications.

Pinetta is a party hack of limited talents. He is being rewarded or his loyalty, not because he can actually do the job.

This one was too easy. Pinetta's nothing but a Clinton hack.

Relax. Omaba is so loved that we won't need a CIA. The CIA is just a bunch of war mongering Jack Bauers. What that agency needs is a good budget director, someone that can make sure the money is not wasted. Spies are so old hat. James Bond is over. The Age of Aquarius has dawned.

We don't need intelligence. The world loves Obama so much they will volunteer any evidence that might hurt the US.
